Welcome to St. John Mrs. Greene! New Assistant Principal for 2021-2022

Leadership Message

Hi! I am so excited to be coming to St. John XXlll as your Assistant Principal. I started my teaching career over 30 years ago and have primarily worked with K-4 students.

My husband and I live in Sherwood Park (I am originally from Saskatchewan though), and we raised our four children in the Park. We are proud parents and proud dog owners. We currently have two Australian Shepherds that bring me joy and I love going on nature walks with them. Gardening and playing in the dirt also brings me joy!

I trust in God’s plan for me and what is in store next year. I bring a lot of experience with Faith and Wellness in Elk Island Schools and plan on continuing with this as a priority personally and professionally.

Currently, I am at Holy Spirit School teaching in the Pathways program and I am a CRC (Collaborative Response Coordinator) at St. Isidore. Both of these roles, along with my years of experience, continually reinforce my love for children. Making connections and making all children feel loved brings me joy!

I look forward to meeting everyone and making St.JohnXXlll my new home.

Mrs. Gail Greene

Grade 4 Transition Support-Students and Parents

Along with many other transition plans, our grade fours will also have the opportunity this Wednesday to help with their transition to middle school. We have scheduled the, "Middle School Jitters" session from the Mental Health Capacity Building (AHS) Strathcona County. Grade four teachers will share more information through classroom communication.

Grade 4 Parents: Support for Parents of students transitioning to middle school

They will also be offering a parent specific presentation on June 15th and August 24th to help provide parents with information and strategies for supporting their child through this transition as well. Even though this presentation specifically says “Junior High” the content will be relevant for parents supporting their child in transitioning into Middle School. Please see the attached poster below for this presentation. To register follow the link:

Grade 3 students moving to Grade 4

Students entering grade 4 in the fall will need to bring a device to school as another tool for learning. EICS recommends Chromebooks as the ideal device due to price, battery life, fast startup, and usability.

It is so important for us to celebrate and recognize these incredible teachers and as always, we WILL find a way in spite of COVID.

Excellence in Catholic Education

Congratulations to Mrs. Buban for the 2021 Excellence in Catholic Education Support Staff Award Nomination and to Mrs. Boehm for being this year’s Elk Island Catholic Schools Division recipient of the CCSSA Excellence in Catholic Education Award. Congratulations Mrs. Buban and Mrs. Boehm! Thank you to Superintendent, Mr. Shawn Haggarty, for making a special trip to St. John to celebrate.

Kindergarten & Community Connections

Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Menzak, was biking along our river valley and come across the painted rocks snake! She knew this would be a great project for her kinders to be a part of!

Students picked a rock at home with their families and then worked hard to paint a unique design.

Her plan is to add each students' masterpiece to our community's rock snake down by the boat launch and then encourage families to take a drive or walk to search for their child's rock and take some quality time together admiring the many rocks that have been placed there.

Thank you, Ms. Menzak for the community connections, family connections, and JOY!

note: She will add Monday/Wednesdays rocks next weekend as it will be their rotation for Friday at school.
