AMI Days
Student Learning Expectations for Grades 7-12 (2024-2025)
Background
Beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, a local education agency (LEA) will not be required to make up school hours that are lost or canceled due to inclement weather. This allows our school district to implement virtual learning plans in place of up to 36 hours of learning.
AMI Daily Procedures and Expectations
Students should sign in to Google Classroom and check the Announcement page for each course prior to 9:00 am to review expectations from teachers.
Announcements will be labeled by the AMI Day and the Date (Ex: "AMI Day 1 2/2/25) within each class announcement tab.
AMI days will be used as a review of items previously covered during seated instruction and to introduce new concepts with guided material.
Teachers will provide supplemental material, if needed, to be reviewed by students prior to completing the day's formative assessment.
For each class period, a short formative assessment will be required. These are not optional and will count as a grade.
Teachers will be working remotely as well and will be checking their email and Google Classroom and responding to messages at the following times (at a minimum): 8:00 am, 9:30 am, 11: 00 am, 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm & 3:30 pm.
Upon returning to school, if the assigned task(s) are not completed, before/after tutoring will be expected to complete the assignment with the individual teacher.
It is the responsibility of the student to make up any missed assignments.
Students who attend career classes at SRTC (Scott Tech) will not attend Scott Tech if school is canceled for inclement weather.
Work flex students will not have assignments on AMI days during their work flex hours but their logs/work requirements will remain the same.
A+ Tutors will receive guidance from Mrs. Datema via email by 9:00 am.
Students taking Foreign Language courses will receive directions/guidance from their online room facilitator via email.
Students with Credit Recovery/Edgenuity courses will receive directions/guidance from their online room facilitator via email.
Students taking Drury online courses will receive directions/guidance from Mrs. Biri or Mrs. Datema via email.
Grading
When utilizing our AMI plan, students will be assessed according to the policies outlined in our student handbook. Daily assignments will be required for each class period and will be recorded as homework/formative grades. Missing work will be required to be completed and may include mandatory tutoring with your individual teacher.
Internet Access and Chromebooks
Having reliable access to the internet is essential for virtual learners to be successful. In order to help meet this need, the Billings R-IV School District has added wifi-access devices to the front of the Central Office and the Elementary Office. Students will be allowed to come to the school at any time and park in front of either entrance to access the wifi. This will only work on a school-issued device. Students must remain in their vehicles and will not have access to the building during AMI days. The option of using the wifi from the parking lots should only be utilized if road conditions allow for safe travel.
We understand that there are families without access to reliable internet and that coming to the school on a regular basis to access the internet is not a realistic option. If this is the case and you have no other options to access the internet please reach out to Mrs. Hickman (hickmana@billings.k12.mo.us) or Mrs. Thornton (thorntonc@billings.k12.mo.us) to make a plan. We have a limited number of hotspots available to check out to be able to access the Internet. Making arrangements prior to inclement weather days is critical, please be proactive!
Students should be taking home their Chromebooks daily. If their Chromebook is out for repairs, please see the front office for a loaner Chromebook. For any student who does not have a Chromebook, another device, or internet at home we ask that you notify the office as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to provide paper copies of review material and assignments in advance.
