Our Class with the New Friendship Bench!
Read-a-thon
Another week in September down! Two more weeks to read a bunch and up your hours for the read-a-thon. :) If you haven't gotten any pledges yet, don't forget to be asking friends and family if they will pledge for your child's reading this month.
Letter Writing Project
So far, we have received 6 letters and packages. As soon as each student has received at least one letter or package, I will let them open their first one. Please ask three people to write your child at school. The address is:
Van Elementary School
901 East Washington Street
Rensselaer, IN 47978
ATTN: Mrs. Anderson and your child's name
The NED Show!
The NED show was AMAZING! We even had one of our students get chosen to participate! NED stands for :Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. What a great message for our students. The program was motivational and hilarious! :)
Midterms
Midterms went home today. Please sign the top page and return it to school sometime next week. You do not need to sign and return the Star Reports. They are your copies.
Please remember that we have only been in school for one month and the first week or so was spent going over routines, pre-assessing, and reviewing some things. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I would be happy to talk with you after school or through email. (shannon.anderson@rcsc.k12.in.us)
Book Barter Day!
The kids got the frog to the 'Z' again and wanted to have a Book Barter Day since we learned about bartering last week. If your child would like to participate, please have him/her bring in one or two books to trade. Please understand that this is for keeps. Once someone trades a book, it has a new owner. I would like you to sign off on the book(s) you send in so that I know you are ok with this. Your child does not have to participate. He or she may bring in a book and decide that there are no books that appeal to him/her and decide to keep his/her book and not trade. Your child can also decide to not bring a book at all. This is just meant for fun and to be able to enjoy a gently used/loved book in exchange for one he/she has already enjoyed/loved.
Book Launch Party!
I am inviting the kids to my book launch party and would love to have them come and celebrate reading and writing with me! I have two new books coming out on September 15th and decided to have a book launch party on that day in honor of their release. I have hired a balloon artist to make characters out of balloons for the kids, there will be face painting, a drawing, and refreshments! I will also have all of my books there. (I sent home a coupon for a $1 off a book earlier this week.) It will be at the Carnegie Center from 4pm-6pm on Tuesday, September 15th. :)
Weekly Newsletter
I have had several parents unable to open this newsletter as an email. Unless the issue is resolved in the next week, I'm planning to cancel the subscription to this service and just send everyone a printed version each week. As I tell the kids, sometimes we have to try out a cool idea, but then go to plan B if it doesn't work out. :)
