CES Weekly Communicator
Communicator #10: October 7, 2022
Principal's Corner
Thank you for showing up for our second night of parent-teacher conferences. We enjoyed having one on one conversations about your children. Enjoy the long weekend. I hope to see many of you at our PTO meeting on Tuesday, October 11 at 7 p.m. in the library. Babysitting will be available.
Counselor Corner
With the long weekend coming up, I thought it would be a great time to share this with our CES community. It can be challenging coming up with different activities for children to do that do not involve a screen. These activities "encourage interaction, creative thinking, problem-solving, and a healthy brain development all while keeping your kids off screens" (Big Life Journal). I'd love to hear if you do any of these activities!
Have a great long weekend!

Car drop off and pick up reminders
Please make sure that you are safely dropping off and picking up students. Here are some tips and reminders:
- Please park on the side closest to the building. Cars cannot park on the side with houses and mailboxes. We have had Gahanna Police out to help monitor this. This can make Chapelfied Road congested.
- Please make sure to STOP at the three way stop sign. There have been some reports of cars running the stop sign right by our parking lot.
- Please be patient during drop off and pick up times. You may want to plan extra time so you don't feel rushed.
- Please refrain from using your cell phone during drop off and pick up time so your eyes are on the road and all of our students are safe.
- Be courteous to our safety patrol as well as other car riders.
Doing these things will keep the walkers and your children safe.

If you believe your family may qualify for free/reduced-price meals, please apply online with these easy steps:
- Sign in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
- Choose "MORE" in the left-hand column.
- Choose "MEAL BENEFITS".
If approved, the completed application will cover the student for the entire 2022-23 school year, and no other steps will be necessary unless there is an income change during the school year.
Or, you may print and complete this paper Free/Reduced-Priced Meal Application (PDF) or pick one up at your student's school if you prefer.

PTO Read-a-thon
Welcome Parents to our 2022 Read-a-thon!
This year, we are excited to announce that we will hold a Read-a-thon fundraiser instead of our typical walk-a-thon. Our Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills while helping to improve our school.
Your involvement in the Read-a-thon will help your child develop a lasting love of reading while raising funds for the PTO to improve our playground areas for our students. We will be including two gaga pits and improving the overall playground areas.
The focus of the Read-a-thon is for everyone to know we are committed to improving reading skills but also to show our students how much fun we can have while reading. To that end, the Read-a-thon promises to be a fun, exciting journey for all participants as they begin a personal Reading Adventure that challenges each reader to complete 10 reading sessions over our 2-week event. In addition, we will have a Read-a-thon Spirit Week the week of Oct. 24-28, 2022.
This week we sent home a Sponsor Donation form where you can reach out to businesses to help us raise funds. These businesses will have their logo included on our read-a-thon t-shirts that will be distributed at no cost to our students and staff as well as being available for families to purchase. We will be doing student rewards based on dollars raised and minutes read. Sponsor forms are due back to Chapelfield on October 13th, please include checks written to Chapelfield PTO and have them email their logo directly to Andreaagan1@aol.com. We also have a special spot just for our Chapelfield families on our t-shirts, utilize the sponsor form and return it with your $100 contribution by October 13th. If you have multiple Sponsors feel free to make copies of the form or let us know and we will send more home with your student. Many businesses are willing to match employee contributions so don’t forget to check with your employer.
If you would like to purchase a t-shirt, please see the back of the sponsor form, and utilize the QR code or the website. You can order until online until October 13th . These shirts will be delivered with student shirts.
The sponsor letter and t-shirt information are included below as well.
Our Read-a-thon will start October 21, 2022. Approximately 1 week before we start our first reading session, we will send home paperwork with your reader explaining how you will activate their personal Read-a-thon page. Each student will receive a Read-a-thon Sticker on the day the take home sheet comes home.
You will find this to be the easiest fundraiser possible. By simply activating your reader’s personal page and using the promotional tools found there, friends and family anywhere in the world can show their support for your reader by making a donation to our Read-a-thon.
We hope each one of you will activate your child’s personal page the day your child brings home their paperwork. We look forward to an amazing read-a-thon and appreciate your support!
