What was Poe's childhood like?
When Edgar was two both his parents died. His mom died of TB and his dad died shortly after his mom.
How big a part of his life was filled with sickness and death?
Edgar's father deserted him and his mom died. His siblings and him were all sent to different families. When he was a teenager John Allan disapproved of Edgar's choices which made bad feelings between the two.

Edgar published his first writing in 1827. The name was Tamerlane and other poems.
