A Busy Week !!
Hello Raider Nation,
The 2019-2020 school year is moving along at lightning speed. This week marks the start of the second semester and the half-way point of our school year! Tomorrow, Monday, January 27 is a professional work day and a telework day for teachers.
As we reach this midpoint in our school year, this is the time to engage with those students and families who are who are failing your class -- most importantly, seniors. The administrative team and student services will be meeting in the next couple of weeks to begin discussions about plans for seniors who are not on track to pass required classes and therefore, in danger of not graduating. As we engage in this process, we will be asking teachers to produce documentation of their contact with parents regarding student performance. Below you will find information on the Denial of Credit process.
This week is short and we have a lot going on! Just a reminder that we have ALL 11th graders engaged in MISA testing this Tuesday and Wednesday. Room assignments have been posted throughout the building. Due to testing, we will NOT have RaiderTime this week. HOWEVER, there will be a senior meeting in the auditorium on Wednesday from 9:00 -- 9:30. Please be sure to make note of this as we will not be making an announcement due to testing. On Wednesday morning, we will have a reminder after the Pledge of Allegiance.
As our winter sports season is coming to a close, what better way to celebrate our winter student athletes than with a Winter Pep Rally. The Winter Pep Rally will take place this coming Friday, January 31. Students will be dismissed from their period 5 class at 1pm by grade level to the gymnasium. There will be no period 6 on Friday. Students should leave their belongings in their 5th period classes as they will be dismissed BACK to period 5 at 2pm.
In keeping with our pack-filled week, Tuesday night is our Welcoming Night Orientation for our redistricted families. We have representatives from each department speaking to our new families. Everyone is invited to attend. It would be great to have a large contingent of staff present to show how welcoming we are. If you would like to attend, the program begins at 7pm.
Lastly, a reminder that school is closed on February 4 due to the 7th Congressional District special primary election. As of today, there will not be any adjustments to the school system A Day/B Day calendar at this time and continue forward with the calendar as published. There is an updated calendar on the HCPSS Website which reflects the closure of schools and the unchanged A/B day rotation.
See you all tomorrow (maybe) but definitely Tuesday!

Important Information
Denial of Credit Information
As we enter the third quarter, the discussion of denial of credit may begin to surface. I want to share the Denial of Credit process that the school system has put in place. This process is intended to afford multiple opportunities for intervention for student attendance in order to avoid any student being in the position of being denied credit for a course. Teachers, counselors, and administrators are asked to take specific steps to document student and parent notification and engagement prior to requesting denial of credit from the principal. The steps in the process are:
- Student/Teacher Conference (one each quarter)
- Parent Notification (one each quarter)
- Denial of Credit Warning Letter sent by teacher (before end of Quarter 3)
- Conference held with student, parent, counselor/administrator documented in the form of a contract
- Denial of Credit Recommendation Form submitted to principal (3 weeks prior to last student day)
