NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3| WEEK 8 | 8 SEPTEMBER 2022

Tomorrow, we celebrate Mercy Day during which we acknowledge the works of the Mercy Sisters who founded Holy Name School, Carlisle, in 1938 with an initial enrolment of 40 students. When we look around our school today, it is easy to forget the rich history of our foundation Orders of Sisters but with a combined 134 years of existence (72 years - Holy Name, 50 years - Notre Dame and 12 years – combined) we have strong traditional values to guide us as we move into the future. Each year we have a focus upon one of the Orders with this year remembering and supporting the Mercys.
Many Mercy Sisters are still active throughout the world today and the funds raised from our mission fete tomorrow will be forwarded to them to support their many works of charity.
MERCY DAY
- Our day will commence with Mass in the Church commencing at 8.45am.
- After Mass the children will complete activities in class about the Mercy Sisters.
- After recess our Mission Fete will be held with fun activities organized by the classes.
- The children will receive a sausage sizzle, a juice box and an icy pole for lunch.
- After lunch, buddy classes will complete activities.
- Throughout the fete, children will receive tickets that they are to place in a central box with winning tickets drawn out at the end of the day for a number of prizes.
- Children and staff are invited to wear neat casual clothes for the day.
- We request a $5.00 donation for each child which will be passed on to the Mercy Sisters to support their missionary work.

Our Senior Dance group has been awarded the Presentation Sisters’ Award for Primary Dance for the third consecutive time. This is a wonderful achievement and testament to the dedicated work of the children and Mrs Tiffany Donovan-Flintoff, assisted by her many helpers. Unfortunately, our Dance group has not been selected to perform in the Final Concert, which is disappointing, but will allow other schools to be represented. Again, congratulations to all involved in achieving this great result.
FIELD EVENTS CARNIVAL
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Senior Athletics Field Events Carnival as the forecast for last Tuesday was much worse than the actual weather on the day. Due to the limited dates available for the venue, the Carnival will now be held on Monday, 10 October (the first day of Term 4).
ENRICHMENT
It was a pleasure to see our Enrichment Programme students present their projects to parents, staff and the children from Years Four to Six this morning. They have, over the past school Term devised a holiday schedule using a randomly selected budget, visiting four world destinations. I was impressed by the creativity of the presentations and the confidence with which the children spoke. Congratulations to all students involved and to Miss Erin Horne and Mr Adam Seers who have voluntarily coordinated the programme.

THREE YEAR OLD CLASS NEWS
Term Three in Three Year Old Kindy has been busy. Ms Sandy has been helping in another room this term. We had Miss Grace help us at the beginning of term and then, Ms S is helping us until Week Nine. Thank you to both ladies for your amazing energy and care while you were in our room.

At the beginning of the term we recognised NAIDOC Week.
We looked at what NAIDOC Week means. It helps non – indigenous Australians learn about the culture, traditions and history of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We attempted to draw some of the symbols used in cave paintings and dream time storytelling.

Did you know that if you see a fire, you call a fire fighter?

Like the rest of the school, we loved dressing up for book week and participating in the parade. We had so much fun.
