ADMINISTRATION
Jaguar Families,
January and February are jam packed with academic, athletic and spirit activities for students. It's a great time to be a Jaguar, especially as we dry out a little and get to enjoy the outdoors after SO much rain. To enjoy all that lies ahead this spring, we are continuously reminding students to be safe, respectful, responsible and kind on campus. We want ALL students to avoid the No Activities list.
Several updates follow in the newsletter below:
- This year 8th grade students choose 9th grade courses for Franklin HS THIS WEEK
- 8th Grade Disneyland updates
- Promotion Basics
- Sign up for "Loved Ones on the Lawn" - (come have lunch with your student)

ACTIVITIES
8th GRADE DISNEYLAND FIELD TRIP:
Disneyland Update:
Please note that while we are moving forward with this field trip and are doing everything in our control to make it happen for our 8th grade students, it will remain tentative until we make our final count and payments at the beginning of February. If we as a school make a final decision to cancel this trip before February, all students who have paid will receive a FULL REFUND. Many things are impacting the planning of this field trip this year. Specifically, we have seen a significant increase in the cost for tickets, food, buses, and hotel rooms (which we provide for our bus drivers.) While we have raised the cost to reflect these changes, we are also dealing with decreased availability of buses and hotel rooms. The final decisions on this field trip will be made based on sign ups and availability. Once sign ups end, we will make final decisions.
Sign-ups will be on a first come, first served basis. We will fill one bus at a time. Once one bus fills, we will begin filling another. We have room to take 192 students, that is 48 students per bus. We will only take full buses. So if, for example, 160 kids sign up, the last 16 students would not be able to attend because bus #4 would not be full, and we would have to reduce to 3 buses.
Participation Criteria:
We have updated the outdated participation criteria to better reflect our goals with this field trip. We (TJMS Leadership) would like to include any and all students who would like to attend and continue to meet TJMS behavior and attendance expectations. In order to attend students must be cleared from the NO ACTIVITIES LIST. This includes the Library overdue list, tardies, and behavior referrals. Any student who receives an off-campus suspension will be placed on the NO ACTIVITIES LIST and will not be able to go. If they have already paid for their trip, a refund will only be given if there is a person on the waitlist who is able to take the spot.
Signups:
Signups will begin on Tuesday, January 24th at 7:45 am and will continue until Friday, January 27th at noon or when all spots have been filled, whichever comes first. On Tuesday, January 24th at 7:45 am we will open the cafeteria to begin sign-ups. Students must bring their TJMS Student ID card, completed permission slip, and $400 cash or money order to sign up. If parents want to be with students to turn in the money, they can enter the MP room (cafeteria) from the doors adjacent to the loop at the back parking lot. All signups are on a first-come, first-serve basis. We have made every effort to accommodate as many students as possible for this trip. Once the buses are full we will start a waiting list for any cancellations.
*Please see the field trip packet (available in the student store annex) for additional information.
TJMS Spirit Items:
We now have socks and totes available for purchase in our student store for $10.
Loved Ones on the Lawn:
SAVE the DATE we will be hosting our first Loved Ones on the Lawn Lunch Thursday, February 9th and Friday, February 10th. Parents/Guardians are invited to come and join their students at TJMS for lunch on one or both days. 8th Grade Lunch is 11:19-11:51 and 7th Grade Lunch is 12:47-1:19. We have to verify that Loved Ones on the Lawn are the registered guardians of students. To speed up that process at the gate significantly, using this form to register will allow us to look up the information in advance in Synergy and have an approved list of visitors already waiting at the gate upon your arrival. If you do not register in advance, be prepared to line up and sign in at the gate and verify identification.
PBIS FAMILY SUPPORT
Our current PBIS focus is Respect. In Advocacy this winter, we are discussing ways students can respect themselves, their peers, and staff while on campus. Teachers and staff will be looking for students who are being respectful and reward them with Jag Swag. You can continue the conversation with your child by talking about what it means to have respect for your own self. One way we can all show self-respect is by maintaining a growth mindset and focusing on the positive.
PBIS NEEDS:
PBIS provides prizes and special activities on campus to promote positive behavior. Families can help support our PBIS team by discussing the PBIS Focus at home, attending Dine-Out Events, purchasing items off our Amazon wish list, or donating for upcoming events. Check out our Positively Toby--PBIS Parent page on our website here.
