Cell Phones and Smart Watches

This year we have noticed an influx of students bringing cell phones and smart watches to school. We understand that some students may bring these items for use after school, however during school hours, electronic devices are expected to be turned off or in airplane mode. Students should not be receiving phone calls or text messages from any person during school hours, 7:30am- 3:30pm, as it interrupts the learning environment. If a child answers a call on their watch/phone during school hours, they will be given a warning and the staff member will explain the expectation for electronic devices. If there are repeated offenses, the device may be taken up and consequences will be handled as a student misbehavior.

If your child brings these items to school, please speak with them about these expectations.

Also, parents, please do not call or text your children during the school day. If an emergency arises, please call the front office and will will assist in getting the message to your child.

Concerned Community Members

I continue to receive emails and phone calls from concerned community members regarding Powell families parking along their street, on the grass, or blocking exits to neighborhoods when picking up children from school. We dismiss almost 900 students from school daily. Our number one goal is always safety, but we also value efficiency and respect for our surrounding neighborhoods. When Powell parents park along the curb in neighborhoods and wait for dismissal, it blocks the flow of traffic for emergency vehicles, buses, trash pick up, and residents. It also creates a safety hazard for those that utilize the street to walk home.

Below is a short video regarding our car rider line. Typically, we finish dismissing car riders in 20 minutes. The car line is a safe option for families that do not receive bus service or do not wish to utilize bus service.

We all would appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe and orderly dismissal daily at Powell. Thank you!

Lost and Found

Our lost and found has started to grow already. At the end of the year last year, we had 8-10 trash bags full of clothes that were unclaimed and donated. Please mark your child's jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes and water bottles with their name so if lost, we can return to the owner.
