NO SCHOOL: April Vacation (Monday 4/17 - Friday 4/21)
There is no school Monday 4/17 - Friday 4/21.
When we return on Monday, April 24 it will be a Day 7.
Have a wonderful and restful April Vacation!
Postural Screening for 8th grade students will take place April 24-28, 2023
Massachusetts General Laws (M.G.L. c.71, s57) require that all public school students in grades five through nine be screened annually for the early detection of spinal problems.
The purpose of this screening program is to identify possible curvature of the spine in children. The screening test is very simple and can be performed in less than one minute. The screening consists of observations of the students back when standing and bending forward and will be conducted by a registered nurse. You will be contacted if there is any reason that warrants follow up by your child’s health care provider.
Postural screening for eighth grade students will take place during the week of April 24th. All students will be screened individually in a private setting in the health office. The entire back must be visible during the screening process. All students are asked to remove their shirts. Females should wear a bra or halter top to permit more accurate observation of the back. If students do not have the type of clothing that permits observation of the back, a notice will be sent to parents/guardians that screening was not completed. Follow up should be done with the student’s health care provider with documentation submitted to the school nurse.
If you choose not to have your child participate in the Postural Screening Program, please email cdufault@monomoy.edu or ssears@monomoy.edu prior to April 14, 2023. Please then follow up by ensuring that a current physical with postural screening is on file in the nurse's office.
Please feel free to contact your school nurses with any questions about postural screening.
Healthy regards,

Monomoy's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Advisory Council
Hello! Monomoy’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Advisory Council (DEIBAC) is gathering anonymous student submissions about the unique experiences our students have related to race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, native language, hidden disability, unique families, and the many, many more characteristics that make you, YOU!
Our goal with these stories is to find barriers that appear within the Monomoy educational system and work to erase resulting gaps in learning, development, happiness, and safety for all of our students. Your submissions will be fully anonymous unless you choose otherwise! These first-hand stories will help our school community better understand the real experiences of our students.
The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Advisory Council is made up of a diverse group of parents, teachers, community members, and students who are working to improve the district. If you are interested in other council efforts, looking for advice in the realm of equity, or wish to start a conversation we are missing, please email equity@monomoy.edu
We look forward to hearing from you!
