It's All About Perspective

Thank you for being a caring group of educators who above all love our kids, work hard to improve, and dig in not give in when the going gets tough! Many times I see what could be stumbling blocks being stacked up to help our students reach higher and attain more! I appreciate that all members of Team Chandler work together to help our team achieve more! Keep up the great work!!

Staff Meeting Wednesday

As promised last month, we will be meeting this month (on Wednesday this week as a matter of fact) for a staff meeting. We will start at 3:10 and be done by 4:10 (I will offer a full refund of admission if we run late). Thanks for being prompt!

Simply STEM

Here is a great article outlining 6 key components of a STEM lesson. I would encourage you to read this short article. As we progress toward STEM implementation at Chandler, these will be key to helping ensure we are truly creating a culture of STEM, and will become critical points of emphasis as we plan activities, projects, and units.

Testing Woes

Reminder that Laura has been diligently working out kinks in the testing process, sending out updates as available and needed, and doing an amazing job keeping everything on track and moving! Kudos to her for her work, our EL folks for helping figure out how to get all our kiddos tested, and each of you for being flexible and rolling with the punches! Thanks in advance for your work and patience! As a factoid, Kevin has informed us that there is only 5 weeks this semester where a testing window isn't open :o)

EL students and teachers will begin the process of administering WIDA this week and next. We have roughly 1/3 of our students that will participate in this process, which has almost become high stakes due to our 4 year AMAO plan. Please be patient as we work through this process.

Team Chandler

Welcome to the following new members of Team Chandler:

Report Cards

You should be able to already have begun filling out report cards at your convenience. They will go home on January 11 in Monday folders!

Pop Machine Price Increase After Christmas

The money raised by this machine supports events/celebrations such as the staff Christmas party and teacher appreciation week among others. Now that GCS has settled their pop contract, it is apparent that we will have to raise the cost for a bottle of soda. The new cost will be $1.50.

STEM Project Grant

If anyone would like to take the plunge on trying a STEM activity, Mr. Kauffman and I would love to help you find or plan a project to try with your kids. To help cover costs there is a grant available for those interested. Here is the grant information:

We are thrilled to announce that the 2016 Winter EnablINg STEM teacher grant cycle has kicked off!

We wanted to be sure you were aware that the TechPoint Foundation for Youth EnablINg STEM teacher program has kicked off a Winter 2016 grant cycle. Indiana teachers can complete a quick grant application for classroom dollars that support unique, hands-on STEM learning for students in grades K-8. The application and more information can be found HERE. The application closes on 1/31/15. Please share with your education network within the state.

From Central Office...

T“If you are working on something exciting that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.”

– Steve Jobs

What are you most excited about in life?

How does your team or organization help you realize your own personal vision?

What are two steps you can take today to fuel your team’s vision?

The employment acknowledgement letters will be sent to buildings as soon as we are able to pull them from the system. We had hoped to get these out to schools the first week back after break, but we are experiencing a delay, and will send them as soon as possible. The wage increases will be realized on the 1/29 paychecks.

Tentative Strategic Planning Presentations – During the last week in January, Dr. Woodworth will be coming out to four (4) building locations to share information, with anyone who wishes to attend, about strategic planning. Watch for more information to be forthcoming, once the dates are finalized.

January 27 @ 3:15 p.m. @ Parkside

January 28 @ 7:30 a.m. @ GMS

TLT Update

As always, TLT is dedicated to ensuring our strategy has been field tested with our students, in our building, broken down, modified, retried, and improved before rolling it out in cluster. During our meeting this past week, TLT members put some finishing touches on our new Pre-reading/Text Features THIEVES and TELL strategy. We are now happy to bring it to you over the next few weeks of cluster. We look forward to your feedback, hard work, and success with this strategy in the future.
