FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
Wow! We are so excited to have completed our first full week of school! The administration met with all of our grade levels to set the tone for a great year. We are so proud of our 8th grade students, as they rise to be our leaders. We are equally impressed with our 7th graders who grew so much over the summer and started the year with a different confidence than last year. Then, we welcomed our newest members to our team, our 6th graders. They were absolutely lovely and have been highly respectful and eager to learn the ways of Middle School. Not having to walk in a line still remains the current favorite part of Middle School for a 6th-grade student. This new found freedom is so neat to see, as they step out and become more independent. We are in full swing with many exciting things happening throughout the school. Please take a look below in the school notes section for details. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Capes
SCHOOL NOTES
- CLUBS & ACTIVITIES: On Monday, we will open the registration for the Fall Clubs & Activities! Mr. Shaun Ruymen (Assistant Principal at XRD NORTH) is the coordinator of these programs and has created a FALL EXTRACURRICULAR & ACTIVE CLUB document for your reference. Click on the link for details. Any specific questions should be directed to Mr. Ruymen. (Shaun.Ruymen@sbschools.org)
- 4:15 PM LATE BUSES: This year we have two runs for late buses. We added a 4:15 pm late bus run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Late busses are for students involved in organized sports, scheduled activities, or for anyone staying to watch a game. This is not by choice. There are no late buses on days when scheduled events/activities are not taking place. **PLEASE NOTE: These runs do not drop students at the regular bus stops. They have satellite drop off locations. CLICK HERE for the 4:15 PM drop locations. ***
- 5:15 PM LATE BUSES: The 5:15 pm late buses will run each day of the week, Monday - Friday. Again, these buses are for students involved in organized sports, scheduled activities, or for anyone staying to watch a game. This is not by choice. There are no late buses on days when scheduled events/activities are not taking place. **PLEASE NOTE: These runs do not drop students at the regular bus stops. They have satellite drop off locations. CLICK HERE for the 5:15 PM drop locations. ***
- SPORTING EVENTS: Students are invited to stay after school to watch sporting events and to cheer on our athletes. Regardless of the ending time of the event, students can either take the 5:15 pm late bus home or they can be picked up. Either way, all student spectators must be picked up no later than 5:15 pm. If a student wants to stay past this time, they must be accompanied by an adult in order to stay. Again, all rides must be at the school by 5:15 pm. As a reminder, students must register with our security staff and cannot leave the school campus to go to Pierre's Deli at any time.
- AFTER SCHOOL TRAFFIC: Our school is an active place after school. Given such, we are asking everyone to be very careful during after school pick up and obey the clear traffic pattern. No cars are permitted in the bus lanes during the after school time. Parking can occur in the back of the school and in the front.
- BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHTS: This year, we will host TWO Back to School Nights. The first night is on 9/24 for 6th grade families only. The second is on 10/03 for 7th & 8th grade families only. Both events start at 6:30pm. A specific schedule for each night will be sent home via separate email. Please look for this communication in the coming week.
- SUICIDE PREVENTION WEEK: This past week was Suicide Prevention Week. At this level, we are careful to use developmentally appropriate language, while still sharing the importance of a very serious topic. Our Student Assistance Coordinator, along with our School Counselors, provided an age-appropriate activity to let kids know that there is always support. During lunch on Thursday, they had a table inviting kids to think about "Who Would Rescue You?" So many shared family, friends, and teachers. Please keep reminding our children that there are always people to help.
- GENESIS: Please make sure all of your forms have been updated and signed via Genesis. Our gradebooks are currently not visible by parents because there are very little (if any) grades to report. The portal will be open to parents in just a few weeks when grades are posted.
