A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
As we finish the second week of Virtual Learning, I hope that you feel comfortable with the routine we are using to continue your student’s education. Although this is not the traditional way to have school, it’s the best alternative available.
I encourage you to check INOW regularly to monitor the progress of your student’s work and grades. Please note that teachers will enter a Zero for assignments not turned in on time, accompanied by a comment from the teacher. The teacher feedback will distinguish the difference between your student not attempting the work as opposed to your student not grasping the concept of the assignment. Your first point of contact is with your student and then the teacher. Should you have extenuating circumstances that prevent your student from completing assignments, we ask that you contact the teacher as soon as possible.
If you have other issues that the Counselors and Administration need to know about, please access this LINK.
If you have a graduating Senior, I know that you have questions about how the Class of 2020 will end their high school career. We are working on the format to recognize this outstanding group of Seniors, but in the meantime, we are sending this letter to the Senior Class through the Grade Level Google Classroom. Parents will receive the same letter via email. Thank you for your patience as we work through this process.
As always, I am available to hear your feedback on how we can make SPHS a great place to be.
Respectfully,
Peter L. Giangrosso

REQUIRED Course Verifications
Course Verifications for 2020-2021 are now open in INow. Students in grades 8-11 should log into the iNow home portal to verify course selections for the 2020-21 school year by May 15, 2020. Students should check grade-level Google Classrooms for information and directions. The course verification form must be completed by all 8th-11th grade students by May 15, 2020. No requests for changes will be accepted after that date.
REQUIRED SENIOR Information
The Senior Survey is a crucial and mandatory component of completing the year. The information gathered from the survey will be the sole source used for final recognitions and scholarship calculations. Most importantly, it is where graduates inform the school of their official decision on where to send their final transcript. The survey must be completed before a student can receive a diploma. The due date for the survey is 4/24/20. If a student has any changes to information after that date, they may simply email Mr. Prater at tprater@hoover.k12.al.us with the updated information.

A note from Hoover City Schools' Mental Health Specialist
Children and Teens Can Respond to Stress in Different Ways
Anxiety and sadness during a time of stress can look different in children and teens; they don’t always respond in the same way. Here are some things to look for:
Anger even at small irritations
Excessive crying, especially in younger children
Excessive worry or sadness
Unhealthy eating habits
Too much or too little sleep
Avoidance of school assignments
Unexplained headaches or other pain
Substance use/abuse
Unusual avoidance of family activities or activities previously enjoyed
The appearance of being numb
If you see any of these changes in your child or teen; don’t hesitate to reach out to your school counselor. Counselors are still here and available to help students, parents, and families.
