Nicki Garner Celebration
I received the information below from the counselors at Consol.
In lieu of a traditional service, the Garner Family would like to have a celebration in Nicole's honor.
If you knew Nicole or know any of her family, you are invited to gather together and celebrate her life. The family would like to visit with you and hear stories about Nicole.
The celebration will be this Saturday, September 8th and it will start at 10 AM and last all day, so come and go when you can.
Please, come as you are. No dressy clothes required. You are welcome to bring food to share.

The Garner Home
If you would like to help the Garner Family in the coming months with food, gift cards to fast food restaurants would be best (teenage boys!).
If you would like to help in any other way, please let me know.

Section 504
Attention, Science teachers or anyone in question regarding a student's 504 accommodations with boxes checked in other subject areas but not yours.
If a student has accommodations in Reading and Math but not in Science (particularly our 5th graders), we should start the year by providing the same accommodations they get in Reading and Math. I would only say they don't need a particular accommodation, after at least 3 to 6 weeks of a student's documented refusal to use a particular accommodation while they maintain academic success in the classroom.
As 504 coordinator, I would only suggest to the committee, adding or deleting accommodations when data supports it. If you have any questions regarding any student's 504 plan or about 504 in general, please ask me.
We are starting the annual meetings and your input on the "Teacher Input" forms are invaluable to me. Before each meeting, I read through the input and comments you make in those forms.
I need teachers to let me know as far in advance as possible, whenever a student's accommodations need to be adjusted or whenever we believe a student needs modifications (SPED), not just accommodations. I am eager to help us do the best we can for every child. We need the data to support those decisions we make.

Interesting Article
I thought it was noteworthy when a superintendent who has adopted a very relaxed dress code stated..."The school did not fall apart, education kept going on, and students did not become more disrespectful." Read it, it's worth your time.
