AVID Fall Semester Exam
Norley Botchway, January 11,2016, 7th grade
Cornell Notes
Cornell notes have allowed me to go back over my notes. I used to just take notes and never look at them, but cornell notes make sure that I go back over them. I also get to be prepared for tests by adding all those possible test or quiz questions.
TRF
The TRF helps me to check myself in the subjects we learn. Using the TRF, I can look at what I am having trouble with and evaluate it. I can then check my answer to see if it is correct in tutorials.
Tutorials
Tutorials helps me understand what I am learning. During tutorials I can get some constructive criticism to help me solve my problem. By the time I am done presenting, I would now know the answer and how to solve a question like it.
Organization
In AVID, we learn how to organize our binder and its belongings. This helps me keep track of my papers, so they won't get lost. It also helps me look more professional and neat.
Public Speaking
I am pretty collected during public speaking , but learning this subject has helped me to know the basics. Public speaking shows me how to correctly present something publicly. Using these techniques, I can look like I know what I am doing and hopefully not stutter.
Community Service
Awhile ago we, AVID students, went to Mission Arlington to help out for 4 hours. These long hours were recorded and will be on my college resume and will help me get into a good college. Community service also gives me a chance to help out the less fortunate, and to make my community better.
Anticipation
Next year, I will try to continue in the AVID program. In eighth grade I'm hoping to learn even more skills that will help me reach my ultimate goal of graduating from Yale University. Next year, I will practice some skills, the ones for homework, at home. The skills that are strictly for school, I will try to do each one as accurately as I can. With the help, of course, from my AVID teacher of that year.
