Academic Success - Summer Program - 8th Grade Only
Dear Families of 8th Graders,
The Edison Township Public Schools will be offering a Summer Program for all incoming 9th grade students (present 8th graders). Last year, Edison offered this course to Honors Biology students only. The participants provided such wonderful feedback about the impact of the course that it is now offered to all students entering high school, for all subjects -- honors, accelerated and academic. Students find that classes move more quickly in high school; therefore, learning studying strategies, organization, reading strategies and note-taking is extremely helpful for all students leaving middle school and entering high school. This class will make a difference! Please use this link to register for the class.
Summer Reading
This year, all students in Grades 6-8(*) will read at least TWO books of their choice. There will be NO assignments or assessments when students return to school in September. We want students to read solely for pleasure and possibly share some of their favorite titles with friends.
We know that students may want or need additional challenges over the summer. Therefore, we have provided several options to explore. However, no challenge goes unrewarded!
For every challenge students choose to tackle and master, they will complete a form in order to enter into their school’s raffle. In September, we will pull three winners from each school to receive prizes.
*Please note: Students in Grade 8 Accelerated must read The Outsiders and complete a separate assignment (See Slide 12). However, they may also choose to complete the additional challenges.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lisa Dunn, MS English Supervisor, via gmail: lisa.dunn@edison.k12.nj.us
June 21st - 8th Grade In-Person Event
8th-grade students will need to return any school items including Chromebooks, text books, and library books. These collections will be conducted outside. They will have the opportunity to enter the school building to take a professional promotion photograph. In addition, promotion yearbooks, T-shirts, and certificates will be distributed to all 8th grade students.
We also have a few surprises planned for our outgoing 8th grade class. Once inside the building, students can proceed to the back field for a yearbook signing, selfies with classmates, light snacks and music.
Please see flyer below for more information including staggered arrival and dismissal times.
