October 2 & 3 (W/Th)
Lab Safety & Combustion
Learn the basic principles of lab safety while discovering the exciting world of combustion. We’ll introduce chemical changes, fire safety, and see the fire triangle in action as we look at the science of fire. Definitely don’t try this at home!
October 9 & 10 (W/Th)
Crazy Chemistry
Step into our lab as we dive deeper into chemistry and take a closer look at chemical changes. We will look at some ways to tell a chemical change is taking place as we look at acids, bases, exothermic and endothermic reactions, and more!
October 16 & 17 (W/Th)
Super Cold States of Matter
We’ll round out our look at chemistry by using liquid nitrogen to explore physical changes, what matter is, and the three main states matter exists in. Watch as gas turns to liquid, liquid turns solid, and some solids break apart in a matter of seconds-all with the super cold temperature of liquid nitrogen.
October 23 & 24 (W/Th)
Spooky Science
How did Dr. Frankenstein create his monster? Can something REALLY be invisible? We’ll answer these questions and more as we look at Halloween themed science experiments-some of which you can even do at home!
November 6 & 7 (W/Th)
Physical Properties
Does it sink, does it float, is it magnetic, and does it dissolve? Why or why not? What does it mean to classify something? We will ponder these questions and more as we explore what physical properties are and ways they can change.
November 13 & 14 (W/Th)
Force and Motion
Have you ever wondered why football isn’t played on an ice rink, how ice skaters spin so fast, why seatbelts are so important, or why you get thrown to the side on carnival rides that spin? We’ll answer these questions and more as we discuss force, motion, gravity, and more!
November 20 & 21 (W/Th)
Energy
You can’t create it, and you can’t destroy it – It’s energy! What is energy, and where does it come from? Learn about different forms of energy, their uses, energy resources, and how we can help conserve them.
December 4 & 5 (W/Th)
Electricity
Explore the world of electricity! We will journey through the principles of electricity, how it travels, and what it can and cannot travel through. You’ll even learn some “hair-raising” experiments you can do at home. It’s sure to be a “shockingly” good time!
December 11 & 12 (W/Th)
Earth’s Changes
Whether it be sudden and quickly noticeable, or slow and only noticeable after time, our Earth is constantly changing. We’ll cap off the semester looking at fast changes like volcanoes and earthquakes, slow changes such as erosion, weathering, and deposition, and how they work together in the rock cycle.
