FSA’s annual International Night will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2020 from 2:00-5:00 PM! We take pride in the cultural diversity represented in our school, and our International Night is a great way to share and celebrate our various cultural traditions. Please read carefully because we need your help to make it possible!
The event this year will be the same format as last year, but adding a bazaar to help raise money for the athletic field. We are recruiting families to contribute in various ways. Whether you would like to represent your country of origin or share what you’ve learned about other places while traveling abroad, we would be honored if you would share your experiences and insight with the FSA family. The opportunities to contribute include the following:
- Manage a booth - This includes selecting a country to educate our families on the country and culture. You will be provided with tables and a tri-fold poster board to create a display showcasing your country’s heritage including relevant art, photos, traditional dress/costume, music, dance, food, souvenirs, games, etc. If more than one family volunteers to represent the same country, those families will collaborate to manage the booth. Any family managing a booth has an opportunity to be in the Parade of Nations. Details will follow once signed up.
- Bring food and/or drink items indicative of a specific country - If you aren’t up for managing a booth, but are a good cook and want to share your culinary talents, please let us know what items you would like to contribute for our food sampling.
Perform a talent representative of a country - Performances can be by our students, parents and/or others in the community. Examples include Irish or Indian dance, West African drumming, Capoeira, Salsa dance, singing, etc. Please note performances should be 3-5 minutes long.
- Sell items at the International Night’s first ever Bazaar! - The vendors will only be adults. There will be a $40 table reservation fee to support the athletic field. You will have to provide your own 6 ft. table. Participants can sell clothes, jewelry, accessories, artwork, etc. Please note food items are not permitted. These will be reserved on a first come first served basis, so hurry and reserve your table today!
- General Assistance & Volunteering - If none of the above appeal to you, but you would like to help at the event, please sign up to serve as a general event volunteer. We also need help with set up and clean up, manning the passport and immigration booths, coordinating talent, and more.
Please click the link below to let us know how you would like to participate by February 29th.
Note: You may volunteer for more than one event! Once we receive your Google Form response, we will reach out to you with additional details.

FSA Competes in First Reading Bowl Competitions in School History in Both Elementary & Middle School
The Elementary Reading Bowl Team competed in FSA's first ever Reading Bowl competition at Autrey Mill Middle School this weekend, on Saturday, January 25! Our team placed first in all six individual rounds! We are so proud of the kids and how well they did performing as a team, especially at a competition FSA has never experienced before. We are waiting for the final numbers to be officially issued from the Reading Bowl committee, but based on preliminary results the Elementary team placed third overall at the competition. Students were recognized with certificates for their achievement. Additional awards and $10 Target gift cards were also granted to fifth grader Mr. Greyson H. and fourth grader Mr. Pranav V. in recognition for them being Most Valuable Players and scoring our team the most points over all. Co Head Coaches Ms. Khan and Mrs. Wisniewski could not be more proud of everything our team accomplished this weekend--well done! All competing students earned a dress down day on Wednesday, January 29!
10 FSA middle schoolers competed in their first ever Reading Bowl competition on Saturday, January 25th. Competition was fierce as only the top 2 teams could advance to the next round of competition. Though our Middle School Mustangs did not advance, they worked hard and represented FSA well. Great job team!
Poetry Out Loud is THIS WEDNESDAY
29 January 2020 / 6:00 PM / FSA Cafeteria
What is it?
Sponsored by the Poetry Foundation and the National Foundation for the Arts, Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation competition. Students select two poems from the Poetry Out Loud anthology to memorize and recite on the day of the competition. A panel of three to five judges will score each student and determine a winner at the end of the competition.
How will I be judged?
● Physical Presence
● Voice and Articulation
● Dramatic Appropriateness
● Evidence of Understanding
● Overall Performance
How do I sign-up?
First, check out the website to view the anthology of over 1,100 poems, watch student performances, and learn more about the judging procedures. Then, select two poems to memorize and recite. Inform Ms. Outler of your intent to participate and your poem selections by Monday, January 20th.
https://www.poetryoutloud.org/
koutler@fultonscienceacademy.org
Why should I consider competing?
This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Especially if you’re lacking in the Arts department, you can include this competition on your résuméor on college applications. In total, Poetry Out Loud will award more than $100,000 to state- and national-level winners and their schools. Also, it’s just a lot of fun.
When will it be held?
Our 2nd Annual competition will be held in the school cafeteria on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at 6 PM.
Science Olympiad Team Wins Again!
The Middle School Science Olympiad team competed in the Taylor Road Invitational on Saturday and came home with the first place team trophy. Twenty-six teams competed in the tournament, including rival Dodgen Middle School. “It’s always a little tense when we compete against Dodgen,” said coach Mrs. Stathos. “Dodgen has an excellent team and FSA students love going up against them,” she said.
“We were a little surprised by the results,” said coach Mrs. Walsh. “During the awards, it seemed as though Dodgen was placing higher than us,” she said. “However, upon reviewing the final score sheet it was clear that Dodgen had some weak events and FSA was more consistent with no events placing below sixth place.”
The team will now focus on preparing for the Regional Tournament on February 8 and the state tournament on March 21. “We’ve managed to outperform Dodgen in the last two tournaments, but the real test will be when we go up against them at the state tournament in March,” said Mrs. Stathos.

Two FSA Middle School Students Honored as a Part of the All State Ensemble
