Sant Benet de la Peguera

Do you want to enjoy the best Festa Major? Don't worry! Come to Sant Benet de la Peguera, and take pleasure with all of activities programmed.

Proclamation of beggining of Festa Major

It will be on Thursday 2nd of June. In this event, our mayor Carles Vilaplana will say the traditional speech to begin the Festa Major. (Well, it's a little bit boring, but you have to come, because if you don't do that, you will have bad luck for 3 minutes! [a superstition in our village])

What the hell is a "Cercavila"?

Cercavila is a catalan word that means more or less a parade of "Gegants" (huge statues), capgrossos (huge fake heads) and a little orchestra following them.

Now you know what a cercavila is, so well, will you join us?

We want to dance without disturbing

- Catalan people are so polite and unobtrusive!
  • Why?
- Because when i fell asleep, they danced on tiptoe to don't wake me up!
  • ...

No, no, no, no! The "sardana" is a type of circle dance typical of catalan culture. The dance was originally from the Empordà region, but started gaining popularity throughout Catalonia during the 20th century.

There are two main types, the original sardana curta (short sardana) style and the more modern sardana llarga (long sardana), which is more popular. Other more unusual sardanes are the sardana de lluïment and the sardana revessa.

(But anyway, we are so polite and unobtrusive)
