Update on Covid Health Information regarding masks outside
Changes to State COVID Dial
As you may know, the state of Colorado is expected to discontinue the use of its statewide COVID dial on Friday, April 16 and transfer most control back to local counties in administering and maintaining public health orders. In response, Tri-County Health Department has already opted to extend the dial at least through mid-May.
While we will continue to keep you informed of any changes in public health guidance that affect day-to-day school operations, much of the workplace guidance adopted for staff and students at the start of this school year will remain in place regardless of these changes per public health order. For example, the Colorado Department of Public Health Environment (CDPHE) indicated in its amended mask-wearing guidance issued April 3 that masks should continue to be worn in all schools (preschool through 12th grade).
Face Coverings Update
Pick Up and Drop Off: Tri-County Health Department amended its guidance Monday, April 5 and eliminated a mask requirement when gathering in outdoor spaces. Per this amended guidance, the wearing of masks will no longer be required during the drop-off and pick-up of students.
Outdoor Athletics: Masks will also no longer be required for high school athletes actively participating in outdoor practices and competition. Masks will still be required on the sideline and in the dugout.
Outdoor Activities/Classes: Masks will no longer be required for students when outdoors.
Staff Outdoor Mask Wearing: Staff will no longer be required to wear their masks outdoors if they are able to maintain proper social distancing.
Parents of 5th Grade Students Please Read
Parents invited to upcoming information night, on Monday April 26th from 5-6 PM regarding fifth grade health curriculum
Parents and guardians are invited to attend an important upcoming information night to learn more about a physical and emotional health curriculum that fifth-grade students will participate in during the month of May.
During this curriculum, students will learn about:
Interpersonal communication skills to discuss and maintain personal health and wellness
Effects of drug and alcohol use on the body, and how to make informed decisions (including vaping)
Physical, social, and emotional changes that occur at puberty
Structures and functions of the male and female reproductive system
Strategies to prevent the transmission of disease
In an effort to keep families informed of the potentially sensitive material that will be taught during this unit, parents and guardians are invited to learn more about this unit and preview the lessons during a Virtual Parent Information Night April 26th at 5:00 PM here meet.google.com/smt-voyz-ort
The event is intended for parents only.
