The Serene Scoop

Message From the Principal:
In January, our schoolwide theme is emotion management. In our morning announcements and classrooms we’ll be prompting students to notice their own feelings by paying attention to clues in their bodies, and we’ll be reminding them to use their Second Step skills to calm down:
Stop—Use your signal
Name your feeling
Calm down: Breathe, count, use positive self-talk
These skills help students calm down strong emotions when faced with learning and social challenges, which helps them succeed academically and get along well with others.
Second Step lessons specifically teach about calming down strong emotions such as anger, disappointment, frustration, and anxiety. Please tell your child’s teacher if you have questions about how you can help your child learn to calm down at home.
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for a succesful first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. This semester has not been without its challenges, but our Serene Hills community has shown such flexibility, grace, grit, and preseverance. I feel so blessed to be a part of this amazing organization and to partner with you to guide these students through this time in their lives.
I hope everyone is able to enjoy the next couple of weeks and all the cheer and joy they have to offer.
Happiest of holidays to you and your families.
Thank you,
Keegan Luedecke

Presley's Presents
Presley is a SHE student in 3rd grade. She decided to collect donations to buy gifts to donate this year. She had been knocking on doors and asking people for any amount they would like to contribute. She introduced herself (as the President of Presley’s Presents) and explains her mission to shop local and give back. While her father chaperones, Presley is really doing it all by herself. Her parents matched the amount she raised and let me tell you, she was extremely successful and friends and neighbors have been very generous.
The Learning Express opened an hour early so Presley could have the whole store to herself. Presley's parents could barely fit the bags of toys into the car. The toys were donated to the Green Santa in Lakeway.
We are so proud of this student who isn't waiting to make a positive difference in this world.
