Sumer was the southernmost region of ancient Mesopotamia(modern-day Iraq and Kuwait) which is generally considered the cradle of civilization. The name comes from Akkadian, the language of the north of Mesopotamia, and means “land of the civilized kings”.

The city of babylon makes its first appearance in our sources after the fall of the Empire of the Third Dynasty of Ur, which had ruled the city states of the alluvial plain between the rivers euphrates and tigris for more than a century.

After the fall of Nineveh, the Babylonian regained control over Mesopotamia. they established a new empire.
