Compass Family,
During this upcoming holiday season, we hope you are taking some time to laugh, smile and embrace the present! As a friendly reminder, our teachers are off from Monday, December 23 until Friday, January 3, the same time as our scholars.
Please also note that all Compass Charter Schools offices will be closed from December 23 through January 3, 2020. If you would like to continue working on your courses over Winter Break or need any additional support, use this list of helpful online resources, which can also be found on our Parents / Scholars Resource Page.
On behalf of the entire Compass Charter Schools family, we wish you a Happy Holidays, a Happy New Year, and a relaxing, and family‐filled vacation. Please rest, spend time together, play games, laugh, and eat the occasional sugary treat. We look forward to seeing you back on Monday, January 6, 2020!
COMPASS SCHOOL NEWS
ASSESSMENTS ~ Enjoy your upcoming Winter Break! Remember, scholars will not be locked out of Edgenuity and Istation over break. Supplemental use of these programs during breaks can support scholars and help close achievement gaps.
AVID ~ Developing short and long term goals are a proven way to support scholars’ motivation and achievement throughout the semester. Goal setting is most effective when scholars take time to think through and write down their goals. One way to do this is by creating an action plan to detail and think about how they will achieve each goal. Use this link to access a goal-setting outline and a template to create SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic, and Timely). These tools will help clarify scholars’ objectives and give purpose to daily activities. Moreover, clearly written goals give teachers, educational facilitators, and learning coaches a way to start conversations and monitor progress.
ENERGY BUS TIP OF THE WEEK ~ It’s the season of Joy! Spread Joy through positivity! Positive Mind, Positive Vibes, Positive Life!
FEMALES IN GAMING ~ The San Diego County Office of Education and the Microsoft Store in Fashion Valley are hosting an eSports event geared towards San Diego County female gamers this Friday, December 20 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. The night will be an opportunity to network and have an information dinner with females in the gaming community, ask questions to female gamers, creators and influencers as they serve on a panel, and free play on League of Legends, Rocket League, Overwatch and Mine Craft. All are welcome to this free event.

COUNSELING SERVICES
ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
If you are applying to universities through the Common App, make sure to reach out to Ms. Olson, College & Career Readiness Counselor, as soon as possible. Many universities have early January deadlines and staff will not be available over Winter Break to submit letters of recommendation.
RACE TO SUBMIT
The California Student Aid Commission presents the Race to Submit Initiative, which encourages eligible high school scholars to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Filling out these financial aid applications is the first step towards college success and helps scholars qualify for federal and state aid to help pay for college. For more information, contact Ms. Olson, College & Career Readiness Counselor, at molson@compasscharters.org
