Hour of Code

What is Hour of Code?

Hour of Code is an event that code.org has put on the last few years to raise awareness to computer science. Our kids are digital natives and have a true understanding of how technology works- we just need to give them the opportunity!

Where do you start?

1. Register your class at code.org

2. Watch this video: https://youtu.be/SrnvvWDm73k

3. Plan your hour of code with plugged and unplugged versions

Unplugged Activities

1. Go to https://hourofcode.com/us/learn to find unplugged activities by clicking "no computers or devices" on the left hand side.

2. Graph paper coding and the robot activity with the cups are great!

3. There is a tutorial to view before doing the activity that you can show your students.

Activities with Devices

1. On the same link as above https://hourofcode.com/us/learn click on "ipad" on the left hand side to see the activities that are iPad friendly.

2. I suggest doing an activity as a whole class first before releasing them on their own. There is a video tutorial for each activity!!

3. Kodable is GREAT for students in K and 1

4. There are several new ones this year such as Moana and Star Wars

5. There are lots of lesson plans and options!
