About the states of matter

Solid is firm and stable in shape; not liquid or fluid.

A solid forms from a liquid or gas because the energy of atoms decreases when the atoms take up a relatively ordered, three-dimensional structure.

An example of a solid would be something like a rock or tree stump.

Liquid has a consistency like that of water or oil, flowing freely but of constant volume.

Liquid takes on the shape of their container.

Liquids are subject to inter-molecular attraction.

An example of a liquid is something like water.
