Principals Message

We are excited to have all students back to school! The transition has certainly gone differently for different students and we are working hard to ensure that all students are supported. This is the first time students have had a FULL week of school in a whole year. Some kids are happy, some are tired, and others are overwhelmed. To be mindful of this, we will not be assigning regular homework for awhile. We want students to get back into the swing of things and be able to decompress when home. That being said, students who struggle to use class time appropriately may bring work home to be completed.

Our spring conferences are right around the corner. Please be sure that you are checking your child's grades and communicating questions or concerns to their teachers. Our spring conferences will be held through Zoom again and will be held on March 31st and April 1st. More information to follow!

Please enjoy the longer days and warmer temperatures!

The "Lost and Found" is located in the main office. Valuables are also kept in the office, so please have students check with the secretaries if they've lost a valuable. Please encourage students to check frequently for anything they may be missing.

In case we have any weather related early dismissals, it is best to have a family plan in place ahead of time. Please make sure your child knows how you would like them to get home on days there is a chance of bad weather. Phone lines are very busy during these occasions. Please monitor radio, television, and email notifications so you are aware of possible changes to our schedule. If you have not been receiving phone calls and email notifications, log onto the

Sapphire portal to check your contact information is correct.

Regular attendance at school is essential to maintain a good academic standing. Excused absences include: illness, family emergencies, prearranged doctor and dentist appointments, and pre approved trips and school activities. Other absences are unexcused unless prior approval is given through the main office. Prior approval should be requested by the parent or guardian in writing prior to the day of absence. After three unexcused absences, a notice of Illegal Absences will be issued. After a 1st Notice of Illegal Absences has been issued, a parent meeting will be scheduled in an attempt to support the family and student with attendance. Future illegal absences may result in the school presenting the attendance issue before the local magistrate.

The Sapphire Community Portal should be utilized by parents to monitor student attendance.

There are a number of options for providing an excuse/note for your students’ absence. Any of the following are acceptable methods to submit this documentation including:

  • Send in a written note/excuse directly to the office with the student.

Please feel free to complete this form if your child will be absent, tardy, or scheduled for an early dismissal. This information will be sent to our building secretaries. A paper excuse will not be needed in the office. Please notify the office that you have arrived by using the intercom in the vestibule. A staff member will escort your child out.

Familly Trips:

Please request a family trip from from the office or select the link below, complete it, and return to the office for pre-approval by the building principal no later than one full week prior to the trip. Upon receiving a request for an educational trip, the principal will review the request in accordance with the District Guidelines and respond whether the trip will be approved. Approximately one week prior to the trip, students will receive a homework assignment sheet to collect missed work (these sheets will be provided to the student at school). Students will have two weeks after returning to school to hand in missed assignments. Neglecting to gain prior approval for the educational trip will result in the recording of unexcused absences for those days absent from school.

Requests for educational trips on PSSA testing dates will not be excused.

**The maximum number of days allowed to accumulate for educational trips is 10 days per school-year.

Springtime brings a new season of common illnesses like nasal allergies, conjunctivitis (pink eye), sinus infections, and allergic asthma. One may help prevent and alleviate symptoms from these illnesses such as regularly washing bedding in hot water, regular vacuuming, staying hydrated with plenty of water, changing clothing after playing outdoors for extended periods, proper hand hygiene and keeping hands away from the face. If your child has a fever, vomiting or diarrhea it is recommended you contact your family doctor. To help prevent the spread of illness, your child may not return to school until he/she is fever free (< 100.2 F) for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol or Motrin, and has no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours.

Students Entering the 6th Grade:

Students entering the sixth grade are required by Pennsylvania school law to have a physical for that school year. If you have had the physical completed by your family doctor, please make sure you have returned the private physician form to the school nurse with a copy of immunizations received. Your child may not be allowed to attend the first day of the 2021-2022 school year without record of up-to-date immunizations on file.

Students Entering the 7th Grade:

Students entering the seventh grade are required by Pennsylvania school law to have a dental exam for that school year. If you have had the dental exam completed by your dentist, please make sure you have returned the private dentist form to the school nurse.

Physical/Dental forms can be found on the district website under “Services”, “Health Services” tab:

Coke Rewards/Pepsi Pepcoin/Box Top Contest

We are having a homeroom contest to win a pizza party from Rocco's. By bringing in Coke Reward codes, Pepsi Pepcoins, or sending a screen shot of your Box Top app submission (to, each homeroom will be able to "throw" a "snowball" at another homeroom door. Each homeroom will be able to choose a different homeroom door to "throw" a snowball against. (Paper Snowballs will be placed on the different doors along with the homeroom number that gave it to them.) Students will then decide which homeroom to throw a earned "snowball" against. The homeroom with the fewest "snowballs" will earn a pizza party. Look for the reward codes on the inside of Coke or Pepsi products. For plastic bottles, these are on the lids. If you have a multi pack, check out the plastic box with a code. If you buy cardboard 12 packs, these codes will be found on the inside of the cardboard. Just take a look around before you throw out these free codes. This is a free way to help out our PTO - ask your family and friends to save their lids and codes for us!
