Edgewood's Tiger Talk
March 22, 2019
We are committed to the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Notes from the Principal
First, a shout out to our EHSA and parent volunteers. They work hard to bring both funds and traditions to our students. It's always fun to see families come together and students excited about their green outfits at the St. Patty's Day Dance. And students LOVE shopping at the Bookfair during recess. A sincere thank you. Edgewood wouldn't be Edgewood without you.
Now, this week's notes are all about REPORT CARDS and TESTS! (Wait...did I scare you off??? I hope not!)
Report cards came home in your child's Thursday folder yesterday. Please take time to review the comments. If you have questions about what something means, please reach out to your child's teacher. This home school communication is important for student's success, and our teachers work hard to provide thorough information.
Testing helps us to know where students are doing well, and where there's room for growth. Tests can help both at the individual and the school level. We want them to be honest reflections of where we are, and so we want to do our best.
So, how can you support your child?
1) Make sure they eat a good breakfast and get plenty of sleep the night before.
2) If your child is one that gets anxious, reassure them.
- Most people get nervous before tests, and that's normal. It might be similar to the feeling you get before going on stage to perform. It can actually be good to be a bit nervous! (Don't you get nervous before a job interview? It shows you care!)
- You won't have to repeat a grade if you do poorly.
- There will be questions that you might know right away, and others that will seem hard. That's true for everyone. Use the strategies your teacher taught you. You can do it!
3) If your child hasn't yet developed the disposition to take something seriously, you might remind them that...
- It's always important to do your best. How you approach your work is a reflection of your character.
- Learning to do your best on tests is an important life skill. They'll have many tests in their future (driver's license anyone?) and learning good strategies is important!
4) Make sure your child arrives on time to school on their testing days. Having a smooth start helps set students up to do their best. Also, please avoid scheduling appointments between 9am and 12pm on the days your child is testing.
3rd Grade Assessment Dates: April 15, 16, 24, 25

Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
If you are waiting on Layton and you see a bus turning in, please LET THE BUS GO before turning onto 47th. If we get the bus in, the cars will move in more quickly, and we can also prevent back-ups on Layton.
Everyone has places to go; please be respectful of one another in the parking lot and on the roads. When we follow our procedures, things move more quickly. Our children are always watching.

Special People's Day is Coming Up!
Each classroom plans a 45-minute activity for students to share with a person that is special to them. It really is a fun community-building event, and our students look forward to welcoming their guests. I highly encourage you to find a friend or family member who can attend.
For capacity purposes, we ask that each child only bring 1 special person. Our classrooms cannot accommodate more than that. Also, please leave younger siblings at home; activities are not designed for very-littles.
A shuttle will be running from the parking lot just west of Edgewood at Konkel Park (near the volleyball courts) from 12:40 pm-3:00 pm.

The St. Patrick’s Day dance was a big hit! Thank you to you for donating to your classroom raffle baskets. Thank you teachers for organizing and donating special experiences. And thank you to our volunteers that helped this event run smoothly. It is a fun night out for all of our Edgewood Families.
Our next meetings will be in the Edgewood Learning Commons:

- Tuesday, May 14th 6:30-7:30 PM
