Better Practice Visits
It's About Growth.
Purpose.
As part of the effort to support teachers and schools, the Tuscaloosa City Schools began a system-wide practice to change and build expectations in leadership and support for teaching. The Better Practice Visits are being used to make sure that high-quality instruction exists in all schools and all classrooms throughout the Tuscaloosa City Schools. This collaborative process encompasses the following: instruction, student engagement, and student practice and are designed to give teachers the opportunity to receive meaningful, immediate, and direct feedback about their instructional practices.
Connected to system's Strategic Plan, BPVs support Goal 1: Develop an Innovative Curriculum that Ensures Success & Achievement for All Students, with its purpose being to:
- Improve the quality of instruction
- Clarify expectations for effective teaching
- Assist teachers to meet high expectations through high-quality feedback and support
- Nurture continued growth towards instructional leadership
This week, the Board of Education learned more about this systematic change to TCS teaching practices at its regular meeting. Central Elementary School educator Michelle Scott shared her thoughts on the Better Practice Visits.
