Fall 2015
Welcome Back!
This year, NHSLMA will encourage members to become (or continue to be) strong leaders in their schools and districts, and the annual conference will reflect this goal. NHSLMA will continue to provide resources for the membership and to the greater educational audience. Resources can be found via the NHSLMA website, listserv, and social media accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter, and G+
In this edition, you'll see highlights from the 2015 Conference, 2015 Library Camp, and the upcoming 2016 Conference.
You'll also learn a little bit about the 2015 NHSLMA Outstanding Library Program Award Winner, Keene High School.
2015 Conference
Wrap Up
This year’s theme was Team Library: Step Up Your Game! Over 225 attendees, four guest speakers, twenty exhibitors, and five authors came together to produce and participate in 35 breakout sessions, author signings, raffles, a great game of Kahoot!, and so much more! Guest speakers motivated NHSLMA librarians to adopt innovative library practices into their work daily. Jennifer LaGarde encouraged librarians to defend against zombie librarians, as well as how to think like MacGyver when looking for displays, furniture, or new instructional techniques. Matthew Winner challenged NHSLMA to “be a hero,” while John Schu & Sigmund Brouwer taught us the art that is promoting literacy. Thank you so much to all those who attended. Enjoy your school year and get ready for NHSLMA 2016 this May. Don’t Stop Believin’: Your Journey to Leadership!

What's happening in Keene?
What are you most proud of when you think about your library?
We are proud of the literacy initiative we have spearheaded for the past three years. From My Reading Life doors to book nooks located throughout the school with free books for students to both staff and student book reads to events, such as dress as your favorite literary character day, to creating book lists that match curriculum units, we are excited at how the staff and students have embraced these ideas.
What's the best part of the library?
We have a great space and great staff who help everyone with whatever they need. We have the opportunity to collaborate with teachers on a daily basis, and we are excited about how we collaborate with English and Social Studies teachers to teach research skills. Our mission really says it all - The mission of the Keene High School Drew Library is to support the school’s curriculum, stimulate an interest in reading, and provide students with 21st century skills in order to be self-directed critical thinkers who access, evaluate, and use information to research, collaborate, and create.
What's a goal of yours this year for your space?
We are finding places to have little makerspace stations so it's not all in one space. And we have put games and puzzles in unique spots. The kids have already put together three puzzles in the first two weeks of school. We added Adirondack chairs to our movie viewing area and we are showcasing photos that yearbook takes on digital photo frames. We are sponsoring more contests, giveaways, and monthly events.
