Happy Sunday Pirates!
Last week was an exciting week of accomplishments and recognition at Swansboro High School. Coach Kidd was named the North Carolina 2019 United Soccer Coach of Significance and the 2018/2019 Lady Pirates soccer team received the High School Team Academic Award for their team GPA average of 3.86. Our Marching Pirates kicked off their competition season yesterday at the Northside Monarch Classic and stole the show with the following awards:
2nd in Drum Major
3rd in Color Guard
1st in Percussion
1st in Music
1st in Visual
2nd in General Effect
1st Overall in Class 3A
The marching band also won the Spirit award. This award is given to the most respectful, and professional group of the day that showcases their pride for the activity off of the field. This award is chosen by the parents who observed bands throughout the day in the parking lot and stands.
Congratulations to our volleyball teams who won their JV and varsity matches against Havelock on Tuesday and their varsity game against Northside on Thursday. Congratulations to our varsity soccer team who brought home victories against Northside on Tuesday and JV and varsity wins against West Carteret on Thursday. We also hosted our senior class meeting on Friday morning. Seniors who were absent should stop by the office tomorrow morning to pick up a package. Graduation orders will be collected on Thursday at lunch and after school until 6 pm. Our Herff Jones representative will be on campus all afternoon to assist parents with ordering questions.
If you have not done so already, please sign and return the federal cards that were sent home a week ago. We must have a signed card on file for every student at Swansboro High School and we are still missing quite a few.
This is another full week of activities at Swansboro High School. Athletics this week will include golf at Morehead City on Monday. Tennis at Havelock, volleyball at home and soccer at Jacksonville on Tuesday. Cross Country will compete at Fort Macon on Wednesday. Thursday includes the tennis conference tournament, volleyball at Jacksonville, soccer at White Oak and JV football at home. Friday includes varsity football at White Oak. To kick off homecoming celebrations in October we will host a fan bus to the game. We need at least 25 students to sign up to make the trip happen. Students can sign up at: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=2oj0MM90xkqfNEBYMyDapI14msEKMxRElyua-wd6_F5UM01LWlI0MDhLTjRHVFdBN0ZJMkRWSUkzOS4u
Homecoming celebrations will continue on Saturday morning as we combine efforts with the Swansboro Mullet Festival this year which will include homecoming parade participants from Swansboro High, Swansboro Middle, Queens Creek, Sand Ridge and Swansboro Elementary Schools. The homecoming dance will take place on Saturday, October 19 and the homecoming football game will be Friday, October 25. Stay tuned for spirit week activities that will be hosted the week of October 21.
The Thursday JV football game is also the freshman tailgate celebration. Freshmen are encouraged to stay after school and participate in free activities to include games, food and tons of fun before the game. If they wear their class t-shirt they will get into the game for free too!
