Health Occupation & Dental Careers

(LCAP GOAL 1)

On Sunday, December 8, Mrs. Hernandez took students from her Health Occupation and Dental Careers classes to the UCSF-Medical Student for the Day. The students interacted with human organs, hands-on suturing and ultrasound activities, and listen to a panel of medical students and faculty about medical school.


North Monterey School District hosted the JPA Patient Care and Public Service Industry Advisory and Collaboration Day on Tuesday, December 10. Mrs. Hernandez attended the PD to learn and share best practices with CTE Patient Care teachers from the county, and she was able to get recommendations and feedback from industry professionals during the industry advisory meeting.

Community Engagement Committee

(LCAP GOAL 5)

The Community Engagement Committee had a successful toy drive because of the willingness of Soledad High staff and students to donate. The toys will be given to the children at the annual Cops Giving Tree at the YMCA. A heartfelt thank you to all who donated and helped wrapped the toys.

FFA

(LCAP GOAL 1)

Soledad FFA had its monthly December meeting and had a fantastic turnout with 132 members in attendance. We are gearing up for livestock which will be arriving in January. We are also working with students to complete their State FFA degrees which is the highest degree a student can earn in the state of California through FFA

Debate Tournament

(LCAP GOAL 2&4 )

This past Saturday Greenfield High School hosted an NSDA Big Questions Debate Tournament. This was the first officially sanctioned NSDA multi-school tournament in Monterey County history. Students competed from both Greenfield and Soledad High Schools. Congratulations to the winning team, Alina Ramirez, from Greenfield High School, and Taym Al-Zuhairi from Soledad High School. The tournament was a big first step in establishing a competitive academics league in Monterey County.

CULINARY CLASS

(LCAP GOAL1)

Soledad Culinary Class is ready for baking season! This week they collaborated with their peers to construct gingerbread houses from scratch. They learned about the ingredients that make up gingerbread dough and the history behind gingerbread houses.Hopefully this holiday season they will bake something up for their families.

Cops Giving Tree

(LCAP GOAL 4&5)

Over 30 kids wrapped over 300 presents for this year’s Cops Giving Tree and Wednesday and Thursday! Over 50 SHS students will volunteer at the event on Friday, December 13.
