Using Google Meet - How To Join A Meeting
Webinar/eLearning Etiquette
This is probably what you all were thinking, but remember it is always important to present yourself as a professional when you are conducting school business. Treat others in the webinar with the respect you expect in your classroom.
Please be overly aware of your background when conducting Google Hangout sessions or creating videos. Dress needs to be appropriate and professional and the background of the scene needs to be appropriate as well. If you would not display things in your own classroom setting they should not be displayed in the background of a video.
Using Google Meet - How To Host Your Own Meeting
Using What We Have
Remember that when you go to our Canvas, you have to go to sangerisd.instructure.com (links on all your websites). For those of you using iPads, it asks for school name - you have to use sangerisd - Sanger, CA beat us to just Sanger. Also, all the logins (staff and students) are locked to first.last for the username (not email); just be sure to use your "grade book first name". Passwords are a bit different; student passwords are Sisd and their lunch number - ex Sisd123456. Teacher passwords are Sisd00 and your employee ID# (most likely your copy code) - ex Sisd001234 (and that is two zeros).
Here is a link to the Canvas training course I have inside Canvas - you can enroll with your account information above. This course includes all the training we did this past summer as well so you have other tools at your disposal. If you have trouble getting in, email me and let me know so I can add you individually.
IXL - while we have just gotten training and just rolled this out, I encourage all ELA teachers to encourage their students to use this. Remember their login is the same as Canvas, just no period in the username.
Imagine Math - you Math teachers are knocking this one out of the park. Missey has been sharing some resources that I will pass along to you individually, but for now, remember their logins are the exact same as Canvas.
For those of you who are not using Canvas, IXL or Imagine Math, I am working on some other resources for you. I don't have anything set in stone, but I plan to create logins, etc just like I have with other programs to make it easy for students to access it. I will keep you posted on what we can do!
Screencasting
One thing to keep in mind is that students have short attention spans; also, many of our students only have phones for the internet. If you do make or share a video for them to watch, it should not be over three minutes.
I have included a video on how to make a screencast using QuickTime. Because I was in my office, I am using a headset with a microphone which can allow for better audio, but the built-in mic is fine. Once you finish your recording (click the dot at the top of your screen near where the time and day is), you will want to go to File>Save and name your recording.
Your District YouTube Channel
The video below shows you how to access and upload a video. I also show you how to make Channels so if you are uploading videos on different topics (ie Math, Science, etc) then you can direct them to your channel.
Making Click Sheets
I make what I call click sheets - there are a few of them in this Smore. If that is more your style or you are wanting to offer your students more modes of learning, this could be for you!
Below is a video on how to use LightShot, a Chrome Extension that allows you to mark up any online screenshots you take. These allow you to create step by step instructions with pictures that can guide your students and parents through all the tough (and not so tough) stuff.
