Pirate Weekly News
Our students will begin working on their poetry booklets in class this week and I can't wait to see what creative poems they come up with. I will also be sending home information about the Solar System Project this week. The students have been interested in and asking lots of questions about the planets in our solar system. Our class is enjoying reading articles and researching to find out more about our neighbors in space.
Our special area schedule has changed for the 3rd nine weeks as follows:
Monday - Music, Tuesday -PE, Wednesday -Computer Lab, Thursday - Library/Guidance, Friday -Art
Please remember to wear sneakers on Tuesdays for PE!
What we are learning this week
Fractions: Fractions and Decimals: Write a fraction with a denominator of 10 or 100 using decimal notation, and read and write a decimal number as a fraction. Compare and order decimals.
Science: Solar System: Compare and contrast the inner and outer planets
American Revolution: Key Battles (Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Charleston and Cowpens, Saratoga, Yorktown) Test on Friday
Spelling tests will be given on Fridays!
Spelling Homework: All homework is to be done in the Word Study Folder
Mon. sort words and write the sort in folder.
Tues. Ladder words
Wed. sort words and write two times each
Thurs. Practice test
Reading: Guided Reading Groups, Shared reading: Wonder, Poetry: figurative language
Writing: Opinion Writing: writing opinions and persuasive writing
Language Usage: Poetry: figurative language
Feb. 12 Make up day
Feb. 15, no school Presidents Day
Mar. 14 and 25 no school for students (teacher workdays)
