Superintendent Update - May 14, 2021

Dear Families and Staff,

May is Mental Health Awareness month, which has remained an ongoing and exacerbated issue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The reopening of schools presents us an opportunity to refocus our attention on this important issue and the overall wellbeing of our Lawndale community as we heal and transition to our new normal. Resources to support mental health can be accessed on our website here.

Additionally, the Children’s Bureau is hosting a webinar on May 26th (English) and May 27 (Spanish) from 4:00pm-5:30pm that will provide parents with strategies on how to help their kids adjust to change during the pandemic, such as being at home, transitioning back to school, and parent self-care tips. For additional information and to register, click here.

Vaccination Update

The vaccination rate in the City of Lawndale continues to increase - now at 53% percent! Public health officials are hopeful that vaccination rates continue to drive our path to recovery now that everyone 12 and older are eligible.

If you are interested in a vaccination appointment for anyone aged 12-15 at LESD’s “Partner Pod” located at AdventurePlex (1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach), please complete this form and you will be contacted when an appointment becomes available. Town Hall

On Tuesday, May 18 at 6:00pm, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health will hold a Vaccine Town Hall for Parents to provide the latest update on COVID-19 vaccines, including information for children. Your Voice Matters!

As a learning community, we have had to try many new things this school year. Some things were challenging and some things went well. As we consider what to continue with next school year, we want to hear from you. Please take a couple of minutes to give us your input at http://bit.ly/LESDINPUT.

Safe, Clean, & Ready

LESD continues to maintain Safe, Clean, and Ready learning environments. Our schools serve hundreds of students each day for in-person hybrid instruction and, to date, we have no evidence of COVID-19 transmission in our schools. For the latest data regarding COVID-19 cases at our school sites, please visit www.lawndalesd.net/dashboard.

It is important to note that harassment or discrimination stemming from unfounded fears about COVID-19 can be harmful to students and their families. If you hear of misinformation or false claims about spreading the virus, please report it to your school Principal immediately. We must continue to work together as a community by spreading kindness, respect, and truthful information.
