Perseverance

"Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th." -Julie Andrews

People have different definitions of Perseverance. Mine is to never give up during hard times even when you're going through adversity. A lot of people go through adversity everyday and they always persevere because they still have a purpose in life. People could get hurt, they could get an awful grade, or have a fight with their family or friends but no matter what, people persevere because they can. Everybody has a choice and they choose to persevere.

How Jackie Robinson faced Adversity

One example of Perseverance is Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson triumphed through an adversity. He was a black baseball player and made everyone think he could do a lot better than any all white team combined. Nobody had any faith in him because he was black and not white. People would be screaming at the coach because they let a black player play. Nobody cared if his team won, they would be mad that a black player was playing. Nobody wanted him to play but he didn’t care what anybody else thought, he just did what he wanted to and didn’t let anybody stop him. His team and his coach were the only ones that helped him through the adversities and wanted him to play. They didn’t care if he was black; they didn’t care about the skin colors of their teammates because they were a team and a teams work together, no matter what. His family, team, and coaches all helped him get better no matter what.

When My Name Was Keoko

The second example of Perseverance is the book When My Name Was Keoko. Because Japan took over Korea a lot of Koreans had to change their entire life styles and do whatever the Japanese said. Koreans had to change their names to Japanese names because Japan took over Korea. Japan also got rid of anything that resembles Korea. The Japanese army took everything from Korea like rice, clothing, and metal. Since the war was making Japan lose a lot of people and survival gear, Korean boys had to go into the army. Japan also bombed Pearl Harbor because they wanted to take over the world. They thought that just because they took over Korea, they could also take over America and then the world.

Losing to Win

The last example of Perseverance is Losing to Win. In the video 'Losing to Win', a group of girls joined a group that could help girls with their personal problems. All the girl had problems/adversities at home like drug addicts, alcoholic parents, and anger issues. One solution to all their problems is playing with a team who also have about the same adversities as each other. Another one is working with a psychologist. They could also talk about their problems. They should also have a coach who could help them persevere through their adversities. Another solution is having a team who go through adversities like them so no one seems like they're dealing with more problems.

IN CONCLUSION...

We can learn from the Perseverance of others, that we should never give up if we have a dream. If we persevered every time we were going through adversity, we would have a world full of successful people and people living their dream. Perseverance has taught me to never give up even if everything seems to fail. I live by a motto that says if life is drawing you back, it will shoot you into something wonderful so expect it. Never give up and expect the best.
