PTA needs volunteers for 2015-16 school year!

We can't run our fabulous PTA programs without parent help. There is a lot you can do with even a little bit of time. Not everything on the PTA is a huge time commitment! We need help taking pictures for the year book, calling back interested companies who want to donate money or chairing Mother Son Event.
Below are listed a few open positions for the 2015-16 school year.
Corporate Sponsorship~ job can be done from home. We have companies who want to donate, we just need someone to call them back and explain the next steps
Co-Chair Bookfair ~ our September Bookfair needs a Co-Chair. This is a four week commitment. Ideal candidate would be track 2,3,4 (during track 1 track-out) Our Bookfair raises lots of needed funds for our library!
Science Olympiad ~ two openings for a chair and co chair. Run the established Science Olympiad at the school. Lots of help from PTA, NCSO, past chairs and parents! Would be great for parent who's children participate in the science Olympiad.
Spelling Bee Chair (2) run our schools spelling bee in the fall. Fun event at the school every fall. All children have a chance to participate. Program is run through PAGE of Wake County.

Parents! We’re excited to host the 9-day Boosterthon Fun Run again as this year’s major fundraiser. We kick off the fun, healthy, and character-building program on Monday April 13th for Track 1,2,3 and Monday April 20thfor Track 4. Plus, students will be learning five ways to make their community rock with Boosterthon’s character theme Rock’n Town Live, a music festival theme all about community. Along the way, students will gather pledges for how many laps they’ll run at the Boosterthon Fun Run event, which is on Friday April 17th for Track 3 and Friday April 24th for Track 1,2,4. Your family is invited to come out and cheer on your student! Please help our school by connecting your student with sponsors to help us in raising funds to match WCPSS grant money in order to renovate the K-2 playground. Be on the lookout for more information coming home with your student about this fun program and volunteers opportunities. Thank you for your support! We are a stronger community because of YOU!"

The MCES Spring Carnival will be held on Saturday, May 9th, from 4pm-8pm. Pre-sale bracelt flyers went out last week in Tuesday folders to all track 2, 3, 4 classes (except Mrs. Harward's who will get them this week). For more information on the two attractions that require waivers, visit and go to "featured attraction," then "Big Baller" and "Meltdown." Questions about the Carnival? Look for Kid Raffle donation flyers in this week's Tuesday folder.

Track 4 will also receive cake walk donation flyers.

The Giving Garden is looking for small and medium sized rocks for MCES students to decorate as part of a Carnival activity. If anyone knows where a donation of these can be obtained, please email A letter can be provided for a tax exempt donation.

Bullying Prevention Program

Unfortunately, the Durham Bulls were not able to perform their Bullying Prevention Program at MCES. The first program was cancelled due to weather and the rescheduled dates were cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances on the part of the Durham Bulls. We are not able to reschedule the program for this year. However, MCES PTA will kick off their Bullying Prevention Program at the Spring Carnival. Stay tuned for details.

PTA next Big Project

Now that the PTA has completed its work with Mrs. Parrish, Ms. Holland, and Ms. Fountain to help create the Learning Commons Area and equalize the distribution of computers in the classrooms, the PTA is ready to move forward with its next "Big Project." A few years back, the PTA matched WCPSS grant money to build a new playground for the 3-5 graders. The intention was always to address the K-2 playground needs, but technology needs took priority for the past few years. The PTA is now in a position to raise funds to again match WCPSS grant money to renovate the K-2 playground. Wake County has already be contacted regarding approved vendors. A playground committee needs to be formed to listen to the proposals of the various vendors, narrow down options, and decide on a company to use. Kendra Kelley, Beth Lewis, Jill Schwadron and Leigh Canulli have taken the lead on this so far, but need more parents to listen to the vendor presentations and provide input to help decide who to use. If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact Kendra Kelley at
