Note from the Principal
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family doing well. Now that we are officially into Spring, the end of the year is quickly approaching. There are lots of things that will happen in the next two months.
Students have been busy taking benchmark assessments in math, reading, writing, and science. Teachers will use the data from these assessments and their understanding of each student to continue to meet the needs of their students and to prepare them for STAAR testing which is on May 10 (Math), 11 (Reading), and 12 (Science). Please continue to support your student as they work toward demonstrating mastery of grade-level content in preparation for the next grade level.
Please make sure you check out the school calendar. There are lots of activities still to come!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lee

From the School Attendance Office:
Please remember that whenever your child is absent, we must have a note from you explaining why the absence occurred. All notes must include the child’s first and last name, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and your signature. If you have a doctor’s excuse, please attach it the note. Please feel free to use the attached form and make copies for future use. Thank you.
Library News
Happy Spring Hairgrove Families!
I hope everyone had a restful spring break. Thank you so much for supporting our spring book fair. It was great to see so many of you on Science Night.
A fun, exciting way we are promoting literacy at Hairgrove is with our brand-new book vending machine! Students will have the opportunity to earn a token to purchase a forever book. More details will come, but I know they are very excited about it and are probably telling you all about it at home.
The CyFair Mobile Library will be at the Chimney Hill Community Center on April 30 from 12:30-2:30. Come out for a snack and some great books! Books checked out through the mobile library can be returned to me at Hairgrove. The community center is located at 13720 Smokey Trail. I'm so proud to see in our district statistics that so many Hairgrove families come visit the mobile library.
Happy Reading,
Michelle Anderson
District Practice Tests and STAAR Testing Dates
Please mark your calendar with these important dates to avoid doctor or dentist visits. The building will be closed to all visitors on these days. Please no drop offs, including lunch, because schedules are changed.
Music Notes
Singsations choir sounds so wonderful! Thank you for practicing. Our performance of Academy Awards is Tuesday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m. Please be in the music room at 5:45.
Dress as nice as you want! There will be a “red carpet” for the choir.
Attention fourth graders: let me know if you’re seriously interested in competing in the Music Memory Contest Monday, May 16 at 4:15p.m. You will need to have transportation to and from the Berry Center.

P.E News
Hello all! Spring has sprung, and so we are observing spring sports!
Right now, we are learning the sport of Cup Stacking that teaches ambidexterity and building patterns. Students K-5 are learning to use both hands to quickly build a stack of 3, 6, or 10 cups into the shape of a pyramid using the “stack fast” methods taught in Cup Stacking. The 4th and 5th grade are learning the advanced “Challenge Stack” that uses all of the stack formations in a sequential order. The kids are absolutely loving the challenge to focus and stack to race others using this special pattern!
Also, next week we will start our studies in the sport of Golf. We will be working on putting, chipping, and ultimately driving. Since golf is not only a game of skill and focus, students are also learning the 9 Core Values (social skills), highlighted by the First Tee In-School Golf Program. On April 2nd, Dolphin Benjamin Cooksey will represent our school at the Champion’s Challenge First Tee Golf event in South Houston. Let’s wish him and all other Cy Fair 4th grade participants much fun and success as they attempt 9 holes (stations) using the 3 various swings.
GO DOLPHINS! AH SPLASH!
Car Rider Corner
If you pick your child up in via the car rider line in the afternoon, please be sure to have your car rider number hanging from the rear view mirror before you enter the parking lot and leave it hanging until your child is safely inside of the vehicle. The staff members who are sending the numbers inside need to be able to see the number easily to expedite the process of having your child brought outside to you as quickly as possible and the staff members putting your child inside of the vehicle need to match the number hanging from the rear view mirror with the number on the child’s daily transportation card. If your car rider number is damaged and you need a new one, please stop by the front desk at your earliest convenience to pick up a new one.
We are asking our car rider parents to please be aware of both our students and staff during car rider dismissal. To help with the traffic flow, we use a staff member to direct traffic between the two lanes. Please be aware of the staff member and observe and follow the traffic directions that are being given. Please be sure that your foot remains on the break as your child enters the car and aware of other students and staff in the area. There have been several instances where the driver has been looking back at the child instead of in the direction that they are driving. This puts both staff and students in danger. We do not want any students or staff members to be hurt.
As a final reminder:
- It is illegal to be on a cell phone in a school zone. The parking lot of a school is still part of a school zone.
- Students are taken to the front office at 3:50 pm
- Please park and bring your ID and Car Rider Tag to the front office.
Thank you for your compliance in helping the afternoon car rider line to run safely and efficiently.
