Coloma Junior High

Week of September 19th

Moving Forward!

We had a great week at the JH. We completed both ELA and Math testing with NWEA. We held Picture Day and had our first Delayed Start.

If your child missed any days this week, we will hold Picture Retakes on October 21st. We will also conduct make-ups for testing next week.

We are now starting the 4th week of school. Progress reports will be posted to the Parent Portal on Sept. 26th. Did you know that you can check your child's grades at any time through PowerSchool? If you are having trouble logging in, just reach out to us and we can help.

Next week is a busy week with athletics. Our volleyball and football teams will both hold their home openers. Come out to support our athletes!

After School Study Hall

The Junior High provides After School Study Hall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Study hall runs from 3:05 (after dismissal) to 4:05.

Students must have their own transportation home at 4:05. No sign up or fees required. Students can come as often as they need. Students are provided with a quiet space with reliable internet to work on homework with a certified teacher to assist.

School Calendar Update

On Monday, September 12, the Coloma Community Schools Board of Education voted to allow the administration to change a student day to a professional development day to meet the needs of our staff so that they can better serve our students! With that, Monday, November 28, 2022, will now be a NO SCHOOL day for our students. Attached (CCS 22-23 SY Calendar C1.pdf) is an updated academic calendar for you reflecting this change. We will send out a reminder as we approach this date!

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding!

Sincerely,

Dave Ehlers, Superintendent

Facilities Survey

In an effort to provide the best educational facilities possible for our staff and students, the Coloma Community Schools Board of Education has been engaged in a year-long process to evaluate our facilities, identify areas for improvement, and develop a plan to implement the improvements. They have held 4 community forums over the last 5 months to share their ideas and findings as well as solicit feedback from the community! The Board of Education now asks that you complete this SURVEY before September 26, 2022 to help them make their final decision! Your voice is important to them and valued! Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the survey!

On behalf of the Board of Education,

Dave Ehlers, Superintendent

Using RTI Time to Build our Positive Climate

This week our students participated in activities to continue to promote positive connections in their classes with peers and with their teachers. The focus this month will be to develop a growth mindset and apply research-based goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives. Together they will focus on creating classrooms that are connected and encouraging by helping students set and achieve collective and personal goals, learn from challenges, recognize their personal strengths, and explore their unique personalities.
