Ms. Newton's Notes
Happy Monday!
As we celebrate the holiday season and the coming new year with our families and friends, we want to thank each of you for a great first half of the school year. We have seen significant progress in our students. All of them. Our third and fourth graders have settled into their routines and new spaces and the fifth graders have stepped up to be great leaders in the school. They remain at the heart of everything we do. On behalf of the entire F.AVE team, we want to thank you for everything you do for our school every day.
We hope you enjoy some well-deserved time with your loved ones. We wish you a very safe and happy holiday season and we look forward to seeing you in 2020. Special thanks to the PTO for sponsoring our Staff Holiday Gathering. We had a great time! The staff at Sceptre were great hosts and we are extremely appreciative of our parent body making this possible.
SLT Meeting tomorrow at 4:45-6:00 PM (Media Center)
Attention All F.AVE PARENTS--THE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAM ("SLT") WANTS TO HEAR FROM YOU.
Did you know that SLT meetings are open to the public? We want to hear from you. We have a public comment period at the start of every meeting. We also welcome parent attendance for our entire meeting. At our next meeting, as we head into the holidays, we will be discussing one of our school goals for the 2019-2020 school year, "Building a Positive Culture and Climate." This includes both inside and outside the classroom, encouraging positive behavior, school counseling, supporting students with learning differences and fostering a stronger sense of connection between families and our school. We will also have our team of teachers sharing about PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support). Please come and share your ideas. We look forward to hearing from you.

As we wrap up the previous long-range facilities plan, we begin to look forward to the future of City Schools of Decatur and how we can best meet the needs of our students and staff. We will be tapping the skills of Cooperative Strategies, who previously helped CSD with our grade configuration and redistricting work, to help lead our community input process.
Our first community meeting regarding the future of CSD facilities planning will be Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 7 p.m at Talley Street Upper Elementary. We hope you can join us and voice your views on how we can best move forward.
