Heritage Happenings
August 1, 2022
Dear Heritage Families
Hello Heritage Families,
We hope you are enjoying your time away from school, getting some relief from the heat and having some quality family summer fun! While we did take some time off (Dr. Sutton & Mrs. Hanks both spent time in Florida with their families!), we have been busy working together to get the school ready for your return!
We are thrilled to welcome back our returning students and anxious to meet our newest Bears and Cubs! Below in the newsletter you will find a few events that are taking place before the first day - so be sure to save those dates.
Returning to school can come with mixed emotions for our students. While some may feel sad that the relaxing days of summer are coming to an end, others may be dreaming of back to school shopping and how that one perfect pencil case will bring them joy this year! Here is a link to our school supply lists. We will also have free school supplies available at our Popsicles with Principals Event and our District Back to School Fair.
At Heritage we strive to make all of our students feel welcome and have a positive school experience. We are excited to partner with you to make this year a successful one for our students. Please feel free to contact us at anytime - we are here to help! The summer can be a lonely time for Principals. We are counting down the days until we can see all the new shoes, sharp crayons and smiling faces within the halls of Heritage!
Love,
Dr. Megan Sutton & Mrs. Jessica Hanks

2021-2022 Character Theme
This year our Character Theme is "Heritage Grows Great Character" - this is a plant & flower theme!
We will be exposing the students to lessons and books that highlight the following characteristics: Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness, & Compassion
The students will also have a chance to earn a Character Education shirt by displaying these characteristics at school. If your child earns a T-shirt, we encourage them to wear them on Mondays as our staff will be sporting them as well.
We can't wait to see how many students will earn their character shirts this year!

Breakfast & Lunches are no longer free - Read to find out how to get your cheapest lunch rate:
For the past few years we have enjoyed being able to provide you with free breakfast & lunch options! Having students be able to fill their tummies has had a positive impact on their engagement, achievement and regulation.
For the 22-23 school year, the federal government will not renew the Free Lunch Program. With that in mind, we want to continue being able to provide our students with food at the best rate possible for your family. We encourage all families to fill out the Free & Reduced Lunch form. Not only could you qualify for a free or reduced lunch rate, but this provides our district with the information in needs to secure Title 1 funds.
We have included a PDF of the Free and Reduced Lunch Application and also have paper copies available in the office. We will also have these available at Popsicles with the Principals, Kindergarten Orientation and Meet the Teacher Night.
The application can seem confusing, so if you would like us to help you fill it out-please call our office. We would be happy to help you ensure you are getting your best lunch rate!
Back to School Fair
The WSD will host the 12th Annual Back to School Fair for District families on Saturday, August 13, from 8-11am at Liberty High School. The event is intended to get school supplies in the hands of students who need them the most.
The event is free for District families and will feature dozens of vendors, free school supplies, games and fun activities for children. At last year's event, we distributed over $10,000 worth of school supplies to WSD students. In addition, MoCHIP will be on hand to provide free child identification kits.
While the event is free, families are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Operation Food Search, which serves local families in need. For more information about the Fair, visit the WSD website.

Arrival & Dismissal Information
Parent Drop off and Pick Up Route: (See the map below) Follow the route from Northview; left on Carr Street; right on Academy Drive. Heritage Students (Grades 2-5) will enter at the Academy gym entrance Heritage Students (Grades 3-5) will exit at the Academy gym. (exceptions are before or after school clubs or tutoring that occur on the Intermediate side of campus, late morning arrivals, or early afternoon pick-up).
If you have younger students, make a right into the Heritage Primary parking lot. Heritage Primary Students (Grades K-1) will enter at the main Heritage Primary entrance located at 612 Blumhoff Avenue. Heritage Primary Students (Grades K-2) will exit at the main Heritage Primary entrance.
Students are NOT to be dropped off at the Intermediate office entrance on Carr St. Drop off using the Heritage Primary entrance and Academy gym entrance helps ensure the safety of your student, and avoids our buses being blocked in from traffic congestion as they exit on the Carr Street side of campus.
Parents will need to remain in their cars while students are loaded/unloaded. If your child needs help buckling or being put into their car seat, please allow us to load the student and then pull around to the RED CURB area past the Primary Gym. Once parked in the RED CURB area, you may safely exit your vehicle to assist your child with buckling.
Students may not be dropped off in the mornings before 8:05 am. If a student arrives after 8:20, the student must be checked in by their caregiver in the front office.
Please note there is no early dismissal from either the Primary or Intermediate Office between 2:50 pm and 3:20 pm. If you must pick up your student early from school, please do so prior to 2:50 pm.
Walkers: Students who live close enough to walk to school from the east side of campus may enter and be dismissed on the Intermediate side. All other walkers should arrive and be dismissed at the Heritage Primary cafeteria entrance. Heritage staff are stationed at designated crosswalks starting at 8:05 am. Students should not arrive prior to 8:05 am or attempt to cross any street without a crossing guard present. If you meet your walker, please wait outside the appropriate doors to retrieve your child. You may then proceed to the crosswalk. If you have designated your student to be a walker, they will be expected to enter and exit the building at the appropriate doors and considered to be living close enough to walk to and from home.
Bus Riders: Buses will load and unload in the rear of the school buildings.
Chautauqua Before/After Care: Families who need to drop off earlier than 8:05 am or pick up later than 3:20 pm may enroll their students in our Chautauqua before/after school program. Parents and students may access this program through the Heritage Primary cafeteria doors beginning at 6:00 am for early arrivals and until 6:00 pm in the evening. Enrollment information is available on the district website or you can call 636-327-3800 ext. 20360 with additional questions.
Any changes to a student’s regular mode of transportation will need a written note to the teacher and/or a parent phone call to the appropriate school office before 2 pm. This procedure will ensure enough time to communicate the change to the classroom teacher. Thank you for your cooperation in following our student arrival and dismissal procedures. You may contact the Primary office at 636-327-3846 for grades K-2 or Intermediate office at 636-327-3839 for grades 3-6 if you have any questions or concerns.

A Message from our Heritage Nurses
According to the Wentzville School District’s medication policy; it is required to have a physician and parent signature for all medications given at school. This includes both prescription and over-the-counter medications (i.e. Tylenol, Ibuprofen, cough syrups, etc.) and applies to all students PK-12.
All medication should be delivered by the parent/guardian or a responsible adult. It must be in the pharmacy labeled bottle which contains instructions on how and when the medication is to be administered and should not exceed a 30-day supply. Over-the-counter drugs must be received in the original container and will be administered according to the doctor’s written instructions.
An Authorization or medication form is linked below. Have your child’s doctor sign, and sign your part to complete.
Please return to the attention of your child's nurse by email or fax. Orders need to be received prior to or with medication at drop off.
New orders must be given each school year.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact one of our Heritage Nurses. Thank you for your cooperation.
For our Primary students, please keep a change of clothes in your child's backpack in case of spills or accidents. We do have clothes available here at school -but we know they prefer their own.
