Free Dental Screenings for Children Age Seven and Younger

Dear Parent/Guardian: We will have free dental screenings by local Dentist Dr. JJ Bittner and/or Dr. Kendra Flann at Archer Glen Elementary on February 3rd for children age seven or younger who have not been to a dentist. This is a screening only and no treatment will be given. You may already have turned in a form to your school to say that your child has been to a dentist, or that the screening is against your family’s beliefs -- if so, your child will not be screened. If your child is screened, results will be sent to you in backpack mail and also go into the student file. If you wish to opt-out of the screening, please contact your school office.

For more information about the screening call Health Services at 503-825-5088. Good dental care contributes to the overall good health of our students!

Food Services Update Reminder

Our elementary schools will begin serving peanut butter & jelly sandwiches in the cafeteria starting in January 2023. The item that will be served is a Smucker's Uncrustable, a pre-packaged option. This means that there will be no risk of cross-contamination in the kitchens for students who experience peanut allergies and participate in school lunch.

Your children's safety is our highest concern. Safeguards will be in place so that students with peanut allergies will have an alert on their account, preventing them from being served an item containing peanuts. If you have any questions about our cafeteria processes to prevent cross-contamination, please contact Nutrition Services at nutrition@sherwood.k12.or.us. If you want to discuss concerns about your own child's allergy with our Health Services Department, please contact health@sherwood.k12.or.us.

Great Body Shop - Health Instruction

Please be on the lookout for communication from your teachers about online access to The Great Body Shop, our Health Instructional materials. Teachers will be sharing access to the Family Portal and instructions on creating an account. This Portal will allow you to view the Student Issues that accompany each unit in Health, as well as the complete lesson plans for all Opt-Out Optional lessons and activities. In order to know which lessons to look for, you can refer to the opt-out forms sent at the beginning of health instruction each unit. Please note that ALL Opt-Out Optional lessons are available online, including ones that will not be addressed until later in the year. Thank you for your continued support!
