Class Meetings...
Great article The Responsive Classroom...
During returning teacher, y'all had asked us to remind you to have teachers rotate classes and run class meetings in each other's classes to develop stronger relationships with students across the grade level.
Also don't forget that Mina is willing to come in and do mini lessons during a class meeting if you have specific social skills needs.
That time of year
It's that time of year - the time when we are all tired, testing seems overwhelming, kids seem to sense our anxiety and feed off it, and we all wonder why we do this job.
Helpful tips:
- take a walk (with your class or on a break) fresh air, deep breathing and noticing the miracles of nature
- laugh - it's contagious - even if you are faking it at first...!!!
- Take your class outside with your writing journals and write
- go a whole evening without checking email
- leave work early one day a week - without a bag of work for home - and do something just for you - snow cone, pedicure, walk in the park, nap, new shoes...
- throw your lesson plans out for an hour and just have some fun with your class
- Tell a joke to your class, challenge them to beat you at something, have a staring contest... - laughter is great medicine
- take a team conference time and go to sonic together - maybe car karaoke take 2...
find the fun in your kids, your job and the amazing people you work with - you have made it through the first 9 weeks of school - celebrate ALL that you have accomplished in that time - because it's a LOT!!!
Funnies...
My 5th grade group started a new article on Hurricane Matthew. I started asking questions to get background knowledge to build on when a student replies: "Oh I know Matthew!! If you want to know more about Matthew you need to go to church. I'm sure that he is Jesus' brother or something like that".
The best ever! - Christy T
While talking about backpacking a student asked "Well where do you go to the bathroom? There's not a toilet out there. You can't just hold it!" - Rachel
A 5th grader was in my office for a check-in. He asked if he could call his mom- I asked why - he said he needed her to bring him shoes because he wore the wrong ones. I look down and there on my floor are 2 black tennis shoes - slightly different.......... both for the LEFT foot!!!! haha - it was about 10:30!! - Lisa
