Tech Tips for Home
Accessing Email
When logging into Office365, it is important to remember to add @ops.org at the end of the student's username.
Example: sjonesl123@ops.org
If the icon on the desktop is not working, go to Google and search "office 365 login." Typically, the search will result in a choice to click on titled, "Sign into your account." Use the same login credentials at home as your child would at school.

Downloading Files
If a teacher emails an attachment for students to complete as homework, do the following:
- Click "download" (appears under the file).
- Open the Downloads folder by clicking the little yellow folder in the taskbar across the bottom of the screen.
- Locate the file and open it.
- Complete the work.
- Save the file to the student's One Drive account (file->save as->One Drive Omaha Public Schools->rename if necessary->click save).
- Turn in the assignment according to the teacher's directions in the email.
FREE Microsoft Office 2016 for Your Home Computers
Through your child's Office 365 account, each student is allowed 5 FREE downloads of the latest full versions of all the Microsoft Office applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and One Note. To download them to your family's devices, do the following:
- Have your child login to their Office365 email account.
- From the Office365 dashboard, click (Upper right corner).
- Follow the onscreen directions to download and start using these programs.
There is no need to do this to your child's school issued device as it is already loaded with these programs.
From the Desk of Nurse Boyer
The State of Nebraska requires every student entering the 7th grade to have a current school/athletic physical. Students are also required to have an updated immunization record to include the Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) vaccine on file with the nurse regardless of whether the student is participating in athletics. If this has not been turned in, please do as soon as possible.

Laptop Reminders
We Need Power!!
Please work hard to make a plan at home for devices to be charged overnight. Some suggestions that might help:
- Set a reminder on your child's phone that goes off at 8:00 PM (or time of your choosing) to have them plug their device in for the night.
- Pack backpacks for school with the device loaded inside the backpack. Sit the backpack by an outlet and plug the device in to charge overnight. When your child gets ready to leave in the morning, all they have to do is unplug, zip their backpack, and head out the door. This ensures they have their charger and their device with them at school.
- Set up a "station" at home with a set time that the device needs to be "docked" until the next morning.
Thank you for your efforts in establishing a routine at home for charging devices that will help your child be successful at school.
Device Agreement
Please be sure to read through the OPS Parent/Student Device Agreement with your child. Infractions of the user agreement will result in a consultation with your child's grade level administrator and possible assigned consequences per the OPS Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Games
Unless instructed by a teacher, downloading games or other content onto student devices is not allowed. Please encourage your child to use his/her device for school work and use his/her own device or family device for social/entertainment purposes. Please report any unauthorized downloads to your child's grade level administrator.
Need Tech Support?
If your child is experiencing trouble with his/her school device at home, please try these steps:
- Often a shutdown and start up will solve many issues. Please be sure your child is going the power options rather than holding down the power button on the keyboard.
- Have your child shut down every night after using his/her device. This will help with a cleaner start up at school the next morning and force any updates that need to happen to be initiated.
- If you've trouble shot as much as you can, visit buffett.ops.org to fill out a Tech Support request form.
Privacy
It is important to understand that all content on the student-issued device can be viewed at any time by any school personnel. Students are on notice that they do not have any reasonable expectation of privacy on a district-owned device. This includes, but is not limited to, emails, files, pictures, and documents stored locally and on OneDrive.
