OUR VISION: Working together to build relationships and facilitate a love of learning for our future graduates so they can become productive citizens.

Message from the Principal

This past Thursday was the end of the first semester. This school year is really going quickly. The end of the school year will be here before we realize it. This year's COVID restrictions have been a struggle, but nothing that these WMS Tigers couldn't handle. Each day I continue to be amazed at how well the students, teachers, staff, and parents have adjusted.

I also wanted to remind you that your child has an abbreviated copy of the school handbook in his/her planner/agenda. The entire school handbook, including board policies, is located on the school website, but also can be accessed by clicking on the link below.

I remind you of that information because it is such a thorough resource. We know that the beginning of the year is hectic and you may or may not have had time to review our policies. Whatever the situation, won't you please take the time this week to review this information?

One particular question that has been asked is whether teachers accept late work for virtual and in-person learners. Here is the information directly from the handbook.

Work is considered late if it is not submitted by the due date and time determined by the teacher. Work submitted late will not receive full credit. The only late work that might be considered for full credit would be for the following situations:

● The student arranged an alternate due date with the teacher well in advance of the original due date.

● Work is late due to extenuating circumstances.

This question and so many more can be easily answered using the student/parent handbook as a resource. Feel free to reach out to us via phone or email if you still have questions. We will be more than happy to answer them.

Thank you for your continued support and for trusting us each day with your children.

Mrs. Headrick

Congratulations to our Perfect Attendance Winners

This week we had our drawings for our perfect attendance winners. Each week that students have perfect attendance, they get five tickets to place in a drawing.

This week's drawing four names for each grade level were drawn. There were some really lucky winners. One student won twice and one student won three times! Congratulations to all!

Creative Writing Symposium

Dr. Holtcamp will be offering some after school creative writing classes. If you are interested in participating, please see him at school or send an email to the following address:

Support the Whitwell Schools Foundation by Signing Up for Amazon Smile

Since 1925, Whitwell High School has been a life-changing experience for its students. The school personnel from all walks of life- faculty, alumni, and parents- have committed themselves to guiding and fostering Whitwell students to grow in knowledge, self-discipline, and self-confidence as a result of academic excellence and whole-person development. In our minds, there is no greater responsibility. But, preparing students for success is one we embrace with all our hearts.

The reality of the matter is that supporting our mission of preparing students for success in the Whitwell schools has grown tougher. First, funding from our government does not cover the full cost of the "whole person" education of our students. The Foundation will help close the gap. Second, athletics are appropriately now available to more students and very important. Finally, music and the arts have been proven to enhance the learning of students. The hard truth is that we need your strong support.

You can support the Whitwell Schools Foundation by signing up for and using the Amazon Smile program for all your Amazon purchases. It’s no cost to you and easy to do once you sign up. Detailed instructions are included in the link below.
