Book Trust

Dear Families,

We are excited to announce that we have a literacy non-profit called Book Trust at work in our Pre-k thru Level 5 classrooms this year! Research shows that when students choose their own books, they read more often and become more confident readers and learners. Book Trust will help make that happen.

Here’s how it works:

Six times throughout the year teachers will support your child in selecting up to $12.00 worth of books from Scholastic. Every pre-k thru level 5 student in our school gets to participate in the program at no cost to you! Students get to keep these books, they do not have to be returned!

Once books arrive we’ll celebrate them and the choices students made! Next, we’ll enjoy our new books by reading and discussing them in class. We will explore what our classmates chose, and then take our books home for further enjoyment with family members.

When the books come home, we encourage you to:

• Read with your child for 15-20 minutes per night

• Interact with their new books, reflecting on their choices and interests

• Create a home library or special place to keep their books

• Visit the Book Trust website to learn more.

We are proud to partner with Book Trust to bring this literacy experience into your home.

For more information about the Book Trust Program, please visit booktrust.org.

Happy reading!

GSA Club

Hey 5-8th graders!!

Are you looking for a safe space to make new friends, have fun and build community? Join GSA!

Students who return permission slips to Mrs. Cohen for this week's GSA meeting will be able to participate in a fun cupcake decorating party. Come join us! Permission slips need to be returned, though.

Attendance Challenge

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

To continue to celebrate our students, we are excited to start a few attendance challenges next week:

Weekly Attendance Challenge

The class (first hour) with the highest percentage of attendance for the week will win a donut party, 10 puma points per student in the class, and the traveling puma.

Monthly Attendance Challenge

The class (first hour) with the highest percentage of attendance for the entire month will win a breakfast party (think breakfast burritos, Mcdonald's breakfasts),10 puma points per student, and the coveted traveling attendance trophy.

Reminder: Because attendance is so crucial to your student's academic success, please send your child to school every day unless he or she has a contagious illness or is running a fever. Absences will only be excused with documentation from medical professionals and scenarios approved by the principal.
