Red Ribbon Week
WHAT IS RED RIBBON WEEK?
It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Show your personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon, October 23 - 31st.
WHY?
The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance toward the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a DRUG - FREE AMERICA.
WHO?
National Family Partnership is the sponsor of the National Red Ribbon Week Celebration. They are helping citizens across the country come together to keep children, families and communities safe, healthy and drug-free, through parent training, networking and sponsoring the National Red Ribbon Campaign. LBMS StuCo is teaming up with this organization to promote a drug-free school.
WHAT?
The LBMS student council, LCISD Police Department, LCISD Nursing Department, and the PTO are partnering with LBMS to host a Red Ribbon celebration. The following are the activities that have been planned:
- The LCISD and LISD Police Department will help kick off the week with an assembly on the effects of drugs.
- StuCo will sponsor dress-up days that are tied to a drug-free slogan
- A door decoration competition between homerooms will be held. Judges will select the top three doors with the best "drug-free" slogan. Prizes will be awarded to the top three homerooms.
- Students will receive the following items free of charge:
- Drug- free bracelet - provided by LBMS PTO
- Drug- free ribbon - provided by LCISD Police Department
- Drug- free pencil - provided by LBMS StuCo
- Drug- free tattoos - provided by LBMS
We will conclude the week by signing a "Pledge Card" and a COLOR RUN.
