BES Families,
The new school year has started smoothly. In every classroom, students are already engaged in meaningful learning. We spent the first couple weeks setting the tone for the year by reviewing the procedures and routines of the school day. Additionally, our students have relearned ways to interact appropriately and make choices to solve conflicts with peers. In the upcoming weeks, teachers will start engaging our students in new project based learning units. In project based learning, students will work on a project over an extended period of time that engages them in solving a real-world problem or answering a complex question. At the end of their projects, we will invite you into the school to share in their learning and creativity.
Having grit and perseverance takes a lot of energy. As your child continues to engage in deeper learning throughout the school year, it will become more important for their developing brains and bodies to be prepared when they arrive at school. You can set your child up for success by ensuring that they regularly eat a healthy balanced diet, get lots of sleep each night, and feel safe and secure at home. If you have any questions about how to better prepare your student for school, ask your child’s teacher.
Thanks for sharing your children with us.

K/1 Miss Wampler

Hello and welcome back, everyone! We are starting off the year strong with our learning and, most importantly, getting to know to each other. We spent a good couple of days talking about what we did over the summer, doing some team-building activities to get to know each other, and making the classroom a comfortable learning environment. So far, we have dug into our math, reading, science, and social studies. 3rd grade will be with Ms. Quinn all year for their CORE reading time and 2nd grade will be with me. In math, 3rd grade is kicking off the year with multiplication and division already! They’re loving it, especially when they get to show off what facts they know and what facts they’re learning. 2nd grade is getting back to basics with adding and subtracting and will eventually get to adding and subtracting within 100! And in science, we are learning about the scientific method, which has been renamed the “design process”. We’ve been practicing observing, doing experiments, and writing about the things we notice.
Please let me know at any point if you have questions or concerns. My door is always open whenever you or your student need it! I am looking forward to a great year!

Miss Kim has a pigmy goat, a corgi, and a cat. She loves to ride horses and spend time with her three grandkids. Her favorite shoes are boots and she loves her comfy tennis shoes for work. Her favorite food to eat at school is spaghetti and her favorite food to eat at home is steak. She likes to cook biscuits and gravy at school. She loves to see our smiling faces. She gets up bright and early at 4am to get ready to cook for the students at BES. Thank you Miss Kim for answering our questions and cooking for us each day. (especially the little smokies)
