Brewster Weekly
Sept. 17, 2021
We are here to do good things for our students, our coworkers, and our community.
We represent qualities such as love, hope, kindness, respect, and responsibility.
Our culture mirrors those attributes. Let’s continue to make our school the best place to work and learn where everyone is inspired to be the best they can be. What we do, we do well.
Let’s keep the courage to shape a bright future for our students.

Brewster Pride Reflections!
Positivity Project
Character Strengths
While often simplified as “grit” or “self-control,” character is more than simply individual achievement or a person’s behavior. It is a broad and complex family of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are recognized and encouraged across cultures for the values they cultivate in people and society. Character is the aggregate of who we are; it’s “what’s inside every one of us.”
Next week our school will be learning more about Teamwork! Consider this quote with your family.
“I am a member of a team, and I rely on a team. I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion. “

Media Update by Mrs. O'Rourke
We are busy in the Library Media Center and each class comes to the Media Center for an hour each. Upper el. students began checking out books this week and other classes should begin next week. We are getting back into many school routines so please remind your child to bring books back on their library day. It’s a lot more fun when they can get new books each week.

Update from Ms. Zarzycki!
Fitness Testing
Starting next week students in grades 3rd-5th will begin Fitness Testing. Students will participate in 4 separate tests, designed to assess different aspects of physical fitness.
The 4 test areas include:
- Cardiovascular endurance - Continuous jog
- Abdominal strength and endurance - Sit ups
- Upper body strength and endurance - Push ups
- Flexibility - Sit and Reach
Testing takes place once in the fall and again in the spring. Emphasis is placed on personal best, goal setting, and importance of physical activity for lifelong health.
You are an important part of your child's health and education. To help your child get ready for the test, you can:
- Talk to them about fitness testing. Make sure they are not anxious and ready to try
- their best.
- Help make sure your child engages in 60 minutes of activity every day.
- Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and nutritious breakfast before testing.
- Make sure your child has appropriate and comfortable clothing, shoes, and a water bottle for physical activity.
Healthy Selfie
Students in P.E. are learning the importance of daily physical activity. In an effort to support our “60 minutes a day, your way!” mindset, I would love it if you could email a picture of your child (or family) participating in physical activity! Pictures will be posted on our, “Healthy Selfie” board in the gym. Anything that captures daily movement is welcome - walking the family pet, biking, sports, dancing, martial arts, etc.

Annual Fundraiser
The Brewster PTA will be launching its first-ever Annual Fundraiser. Our hope is to pivot from ongoing fundraising activities throughout the year that support Brewster students, teachers and staff, to a one-time donation made by each family at the beginning of the year. To make a donation use this link Annual Fundraiser or go to the store on Membership Toolkit. While there is no set amount that we are requesting, as we are sensitive to every family’s financial capacity, we hope and suggest the following amounts: $50 per family with one Brewster student or $75 per family with two or more Brewster students.
Spirit Wear
Now through September 27 shipping is free! To purchase Brewster Spirit wear use this link https://brewsterspiritwear.com/ or use the link on Membership Toolkit website.
