THE HOMEWORK DEBATE

The Great Homework debate is the argument over whether or not homework should be banned. In my opinion, I believe that it should and that's why i'm here: to convince you that these poor kids are being given more homework than needed and that this type of busy work SHOULD be banned by using strictly true facts combined with my personal opinion. I hope that after reading this article, your beliefs on this debate will align with mine.

Should homework be banned?

NO HOMEWORK MORE FREEDOM

INTRODUCTION

Homework. The treacherous assignment given to students by teachers to complete at home that sucks up all of their free time once they leave school. The only people who appreciate homework for what it is are the ones grading it. Teachers see the purpose of homework as the helpful daily review of the day's lesson. They claim that the reason they give homework is to measure the progress of their students and to help them learn the important concepts. But in reality, those are just reasons to make their life easier. Students don't NEED homework to learn. There are easier ways to retain information than wasting time on worksheets. After all, who REALLY likes to do things the hard way?

MORE OPPURTUNITES

TOO MUCH

Believe it or not, homework is being overly given to students. High school students receive about 17.5 hours of homework total each week, according to a survey done by 1,000 teachers. The standard amount of homework, endorsed be the National Education Association and the Parent-Teacher Association, goes by the "10 Minute Rule"-- 10 minutes per grade level per night. That means that 8th graders are SUPPOSED to receive 80 minutes of homework. Of course, that's not always the case.
