From the Principal - School Safety
McKinley Elementary has broad response plans in place, and has a Building Emergency Response Team (BERT) who coordinates procedures and drills throughout the year, including:
- One evacuation drill per month when students are present with one drill occurring within the first 10 days of school.
- Three lockdown drills occurring each school year with at least one being a threat from outside the building.
- Three shelter drills occurring each school year with at least two being a tornado drill.
These drills allow for school staff and students to practice emergency procedures. I work with staff members to ensure they know their role in an emergency, teachers in turn work with students to ensure they know the procedures for each type of emergency. Drills allow for practice of these procedures. In addition, the District coordinates an annual large scale evacuation and reunification drill to test our procedures for both of these functions.
We continue to practice and analyze the drills to ensure the best possible chances of safety for all McKinley students. Please feel free to call me at 701-446-5200 if you have any questions.

PLAYGROUND USAGE
In order to keep all children safe, Fargo Public Schools asks that children and families refrain from visiting playgrounds at our school sites. This is to ensure all children and families remain safe and healthy during this time of COVID-19. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the equipment is germ-free nor can we monitor social distancing or the number of those gathering at playgrounds. We look forward to the time when the community can again enjoy our playgrounds. Thank you, FPS families, for your help in stopping the spread of COVID-19!
